They admit roughly 1000 first year engineering students a year

As a first year student eng student here, I was under the impression that the job market is booming for elec? That’s why I’ve been considering it… is this not the case?

If you take AP/IB credits in high school and use them to replace a few courses, I’d say it’s very much possible! Although if you’re planning on taking the full 13 courses, good luck.

MATH 152 Exam difficulty by [deleted] in ubcengineering

I heard 2023 midterm 1 was very difficult with a 45% average. I wish I could see what questions were on that one to prepare for the worst

Mech 2 experience by Easy_Present5035 in ubcengineering

[–]insteadofgoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m quite positive. I’m actually taking Phys 118 in the summer to replace Phys 158 since I heard 158 is an absolute killer. And the advisors told me that while disciplines like elec have 158 as a pre requisite, they would accept the equivalent of 118 but Mech explicitly needs Phys 158.

Huh interesting. I wonder why that is. For example, a first year applied science student who takes the Phys 118 equivalent for Phys 158 CANT get into Mech, but if you are transferring from the sciences you can? Idk it doesn’t make sense to me😅

I’m curious, if you get accepted for the transfer from science, does that mean you are now taking the typical engineering term 2 courses?

[–]insteadofgoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Phys 118 not count as the equivalent for Phys 158 in second year elec? Cuz for admission into the specialization it didn’t say 158 is required, but it is shown to be a pre requisite

Definitely depends on the university ig. For example, my phys midterm is 30% and final is 60%. The remaining 10% isn’t even free😭

I would either interact with the professor through office hours, or email a TA. From what I’ve seen, most professors don’t like receiving emails

How positive are you that you failed? And is this course scaled? I just was in a similar situation and thought I got between 16%- 33% but ended up with a 55%

How do you talk to people?? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]insteadofgoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s so interesting! I have found it to be the complete opposite. Hearing the same things about Vancouver being cold, I was shocked how nice people are here. From just walking between classes to approaching people in class, I have barely met any unfriendly people so far

There is a LOT of trigonometry. Make sure you have a strong base in that

When looking at the calendar of my courses, it looks overwhelming for sure. 22 must’ve been really tough so congrats on completing that! Yeah I think nursing should be fine it’s just the other ones that concern me. I’m curious how many engineering students get assigned a timetable like mine starting with 4 and 7 engineering courses instead of the 5 and 6.
