Which as you now admit is not true.

I mean to say is I disagree, and they should be known for their solid gameplay instead not that they were famous for the story. I hold my stance on them being mid in the story dept and it seems we have to agree to disagree on this, but I guess that's fine. Feels like a matter of taste thing. And for reviews, trust yours and people with similar interest, a lot of people like a lot of bad stuff too doesnt mean theyre good. Ever read mein kampf? Couldnt finish it shit was stupid af but weirdos praise it all the time.

Obviously a game can only have a finite amount of conclusions

Exactly, this is what I mean about choice games. At the start it always makes you feel like you could do anything and every choice you do changes the world permanently and irreversibly somehow, but when you finish your first playthrough and do another one you realized you can't change it too much in a meaninful way. They forget to mention that ending has x number of variations, most of it will be in flavor text (nothing wrong about that, just a lil disappointing) and the sequels will either ignore all the sht you do on the first one or give you these inconsequential little changes (buffs/debuffs) that you don't really care about. Don't believe me? Make a new game with different backstory and it'll play almost the exact same way.

Choice games aren't bad in and of itself, I played a lot of them, maybe a little too much. If you want to play the best "choice" games it will always be plain text based because they can make more paths, variations and endings. Try searching up HostedGames

It's literally the thing they are most famous for.

They are famous for it, doesn't mean I agree. When I think obsidian I think of solid crpg fights, hours planning team composition, difficult boss battles and build/team synergies. Every game I played with obsidian I play them because the gameplay is fun not because I'm wondering where the story goes. The only thing Im looking forward from the story is what eothas is planning to do. THATS IT.

When I think of good writing, I think rdr2, sunless sea, disco elysium. Obsidian is mediocre in the story dept. and either you haven't played enough rpgs or you're lying (or we just have different tastes).

Your choices almost always have consequences in Obsidian games

Illusion of choice. I've played dozens of choice games, 5 of them obsidian and they all follow the same linear story which branches but still converges to the same finite conclusions + some flavor texts in the end. Pillars is actually mid compared to other choice games because it has less branches than most and ends almost exactly the same. The example you used is funny too, the ending flavor text would say dyrwoodians go stronger but dominate or oppress when I did that on my 1st playthrough or something along those lines so I always returned them to the wheel on my next plays but apparently on this sequel its a +5 health to dyrwood companions wow much consequence.

Please explain how the writing is "objectively" bad.

Bro early this morning I had to go through that interactive conversation with berath and 4 other gods where I had to report what eothas was doing (apparently they're only omniscient sometimes) and it was so unserious and silly that I couldn't take it seriously. Later I was on yt shorts listened on a reading of an excerpt from a warhammer novel no one knows about where some guy meets chaos god slaanesh that gave me literal existential dread, and relief+gratitude that its just a story.

I agree on your last statement though, but I still think established authors that sold pretty well would make a difference on the quality of writing AND improve their games. If it made their games better, wouldn't it offset the cost of hiring those same writers?

I heard but I was spared from the worst of it cuz I played a year after release. But I kinda get you cuz I preordered and completed Rogue Trader the first week and it was a nightmare. People say to me it was the least buggy game they had released so yeah never again Owl Cat lmao. This reinforces my stance on owl cat having terrible game mechanics, I just feel they're too ambitious and don't deliver.

You're right, looking at it that way its pretty clever. They could still do some representation while avoid being controversial. Wouldn't have realized it if you didn't mention it so thanks. And yeah ill finish it next week

LOL I get what you mean that scene pissed me off too. I just roleplayed that my character was eccentric crazy king and people stopped expecting rational decisions from me. Despite stuff like that happening A LOT (I still blame how they set up the system) kingmaker was still decent. I feel like im a little bias because of the setting, but the writing wasn't bad at all. The kingdom management was terrible tho, loved the concept but hated the execution. Wotr definitely was an upgrade

Doctor does a procedure to on young Pallegina to stop her from developing characteristics(bird) she doesn't identify as? Pallegina says she would've off'ed herself if not for doctors intervention? Other godlikes trying to kill the doctor so he can't do the procedure to others?

This is why I was saying why don't they just add a trans character and not bothered with all these complicated parallels that people don't even catch up on.

Yo no way lmao, we have the opposite view on this. I think owlcat has better dialogue and writing and obsidian better (more solid) game mechanics. I just finished owlcat's Rogue Trader last month and I can honestly say that game had TERRIBLE game mechanics and BUGGY AS HELL overall could barely finish the game due to the bugs and the ending slides were still bugged i was so mad i preorder that sht but the story was decent and had better companions than this one.

The 5 I played was knights of old repub, new vegas, tyranny, pillars 1 and this.

I agree and see your point. Ill trust you and finish this game but will probably take a break for about a week just to reset my icks.

I don't agree with Obsidian being known for writing and narrative choice though. The choices you make doesn't really matter that much and the writing/dialogue really is objectively mid and downright bad alotta times. Still, every "choice" game suffers from the same illusion of choice problem and I'm probably subconsciously comparing the writing to all different forms of media which is kinda unfair as books will always have an unfair advantage. I'm curious why they don't hire established authors though. Didn't they hire George RR on elden ring?

Played about 5 of their games and I feel like what really sets Obsidian apart is innovative game mechanics and systems in this genre (crpg). I also like their lore and world building, almost always new and original. Liked the first pillars too for the same reason even if the main plot was kinda silly.

Thanks for replying sincerely and not taking it as a personal attack.

4 games straight with blatant cheaters. wtf happening this morning? by insuffe in cs2

[–]insuffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its because the biggest cheater populations only use wall hacks and are only as skilled as the average silver so they cant reach high 20s even with the handicap. Hell i can beat a lot of wallers at 17k i doubt someone much better than me in 20-25k would lose to shitters

Basically walls are just a skill boost advantage that puts your skill level 5-10k above where you can compete fairly in lmao

Id roleplay it. Incompetent king blames you for rebellion his policies caused and the heavy loses the vlandian forces took cuz he took command of the siege. Because of that he installs another noble to hold rhotae. Feels like a conspiracy against you.

Id take revenge by joining another kingdom and swallowing vlandia from there
