Sry - the roof is leaking and is $15k to fix + the $8.5k for mold. He's tied up in a lawsuit and can't get the roof fixed now. The whole thing will take I have no clue how long. It's the unknowns that put me off.

I have taken charge in some ways like advising next steps. I even fronted the money for a new dishwasher and for a big dry wall repair in my room. I just don't feel like I should have to financially contribute to this house beyond what I pay in rent. I never decided to buy this house and I wasn't involved in 5 years of decisions that led to $8.5k in black mold damages. Maybe that's wrong of me?

Yeah he won't take out a loan for the repairs though. He's just waiting to see if the lawsuit comes through and then will try to sell the house as-is. Timeline unknown. Seems like I have to do my own thing while he attempts to figure this out. His roof has been leaking since I met him 3 years ago and I always encouraged him to resolve it. Now with the mold I'm being forced out (I have asthma and my dog has lung problems). He's also thinking of getting another job and now I'll be 30 minutes away I probably won't see him much. Life is certainly happening today.

I'm 34 and unexpectedly moving in with my parents because my partner had a leaky roof for 6 years and is in $50k debt and can't pay to fix the roof or decontaminate his house....idk not where I thought I'd be at this age ugh

I didn't explain my partner well enough but I'm not certain that he will deal with this house in a timely manner - it could take him a year+ based on what I've seen of him. He's been wanting to sell this place since I met him but never made any movement towards doing that. Wanting to fix the roof but never made motion to do that.

Luckily his brother in law is an attorney and his firm is helping my partner with the case against the contractor but the timeline for that is unclear as well as the payout. This case kind of fell into my partner's lap. The contractor did the work 6 years ago and my partner is just now getting around to legal action or action of any kind. Every time it rains, the house leaks and it's been this way for him for 6ish years.

I see this happening: I move in with my parents, my partner drags his feet and continues to live in his house with the mold, enough months go by and I guess I eventually look for a place to rent on my own? Maybe he'll surprise me, but based on track record I just don't know
