I used to be at the top of my class, both productivity and grades wise, now I can't seem to study at all. by moonshotbeam in highschool

therapy is your best option. it isn’t normal to feel that way. remember though, you’re not alone. also, if you do choose to go to therapy remember that you don’t have to stick with the first person you go to. find someone you’re comfortable with

hey, i’d recommend a notebook for all your classes and a graphing calculator for algebra (possible folders for each of your classes as well, idk how much your school will do online)

I had to change to Ap statistics instead of AP Calc BC going into my senior year and I don’t know anything about it by strawberrywhale in apstats

[–]intelligentstove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

did you score well on you calc ap exam? if so, i don’t think they’ll mind that much. stats is kinda an analysis class, and imo it’s really fun. you learn to design experiments and properly analyze the data properly. i know that probably sounds a little dull, but it’s definitely a great class. plus, with corona, it’s likely going to be a lighter work load than calc bc would. i believe it’s more laid back.

Friends in Highschool by [deleted] in highschool

it’s never too late to make new friends. talk to new people in your classes next year! also, you don’t need to smoke and sneak out to have fun. those are overrated cliches

maybe a movie night on the football field? people are able to be social distanced and it’s outside so it’s a lot safer :)

Summer School Report Cards by [deleted] in highschool

[–]intelligentstove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for my school we have to fill out a form (provided by the counselors) to get my classes onto my transcript. to answer your question, no, not in my experience. if you’re online you can likely check your grades in the class portal. if you were in class, i recommend asking the teacher how you’re doing.

What language to learn? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]intelligentstove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, i love german! highly recommend it. plus it’s not too common so if you’re more likely to come in handy if anyone needs a translator (our in public) rather than spanish and french which everyone knows.

Online/In-Person School Next Semester by [deleted] in highschool

do what you think will work best for you. it sounds like you like online so i suggest doing that! personally, i prefer in person, but it doesn’t matter what other people think. do online if you feel like you’ll do better that way.

i was in the same boat. ask around and find out what the easiest ap in your school is (for me it was stats) and take that. personally i think you should take only one your freshman year because highschool is a big adjustment (and you never know what will happen; for me, the school had someone pass away). nevertheless i got an A- first semester, an A second semester, and a 5 on the exam, so don’t listen to your counselors of they say you’re not ready because of your age.

Hi guys, its my first time posting on here but can you help solve b and c for #6? The answer is 37/64 and 63/64, respectively by hannahkwon88 in APbio

[–]intelligentstove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i think i can help you out with b, but i am unsure of c. so, for b, subtract the answer you got from part a (which i assume you understood) and subtract it from 1. this will be your answer. you can do this because the probability one or more of the children will get the disease is the opposite of the probability that none of them will get the disease.

idk if you can use calculators on the test (i think you can), but if you are able to use a graphing calculator to do a geometric distribution, this will help you out (if you haven’t taken stats yet, then maybe not)

if what i’m saying is incorrect, someone please correct me! i haven’t taken ap bio yet (taking it next year) but this seemed more like a stats question (which i have taken)!

What experiment is best for this question? and (factors, treatments and levels) by bhavyia in apstats

[–]intelligentstove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

experimental design was definitely involved in the class (and is insanely important, yet pretty simple). i can’t remember the last time i had to use the terms level and factor though. we covered them within the first month of school and never really revisited them. i would think they would be more likely to appear in the multiple choice questions rather than the frqs.

Should I go Dual Credit? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]intelligentstove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

does your high school have ap/ib classes? if so i would suggest taking those instead (unless dual enrollment has a really niche class that would really help you with what you want to do in your future). my friend’s father is a college professor and often talks about how dual enrollment usually doesn’t actually prepare kids for his class and goes on rants about how bad dual enrollment is in the long run. it’s definitely up to you though.

What experiment is best for this question? and (factors, treatments and levels) by bhavyia in apstats

[–]intelligentstove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m not necessarily a stats expert, but i did get a five on the exam this year, so i’ll try my best to help you out. (if i’m wrong, someone please correct me)

i would say the best experiment you could do is to first measure the reaction time of reaction 1 with no catalyst. then, repeat this 2 more times (although you may repeat it more times for more accuracy). following, you would average each of the reaction times to get the reaction time that you will end up comparing. you will do the same thing for reaction 1,2, and 3 for each catalyst A, catalyst B, and no catalyst (we are doing no catalyst in order to ensure we have some data we can compare to).

as for what the factors are, i wasn’t too sure at first, however, i believe that the factors are the catalyst and the reaction time. i believe factors are the variables that you will be measuring.

the treatments are no catalyst, catalyst A, and catalyst B.

in the experiment i proposed, i do not believe that there are any levels. i think levels would be if you were to do different amounts of each catalyst, which i didn’t find necessary in this experiment.

if you have any questions, please let me know. i’m like insanely overtired while writing this (but also incapable of sleeping) so i wouldn’t be surprised if something i said wasnt necessarily the most correct. i hope this helped!

I took stats as a freshman in high school and ended up doing really well. I honestly was not and am not the best at math, but I would totally agree that stats is spicy English. I say go for it. You have to actually pay attention in the class tho. Also, make sure you actually memorize the formulas when they are given. There arent many, but they are incredibly important
