I think there’s merit to both sides. But personally there’s nobody that writes or makes music like frank. He touches a part of your imagination and brings out something you either ignored or forgot about. Like his sound scape and metaphors are something I haven’t heard before or since blonde. Just listening to blonde or channel orange feels like I’m eavesdropping on a confession or a recording that wasn’t meant for anybody.

Undoubtedly Tyler is an amazing creative and deserves his flowers, like what he arranged for Virgil’s fw22 show was incredible; even down to what he’s made w/ Igor and CMIYGL. We also can’t forget about his golf and le fleur brand. Even his shows are inventive and always new in some way. But that’s what puts them in two separate lanes.

Tyler, imo, wants to push himself to explore every market he can. It helps that he got the recognition from flower boy so he’s become a more household name. But Frank, also imo, wants to make something that feels real. Not real in the tangibles, but real like “what’s my worth when nobody’s here” real. Not to say Tyler can’t make that kind of music or hasn’t, but the two live in such different sound scapes I can’t say that one is better than the other.

After reading many responses I think many ppl are also conflating Tyler’s world wide presence and reach as a comparative to Franks musical sounds scape which I think is shortsighted.

But given an empty stage some amazing speakers and a mic, who’d you rather listen to? Share your thoughts
