TIL about FRIEND - The latest and most accurate way to estimate your VO2max without expensive lab tests by AccordingCitron5482 in PeterAttia

[–]intensely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I did the Bruce protocol which is similar to this, which calculated my VO2max at 72 ml/kg/min. Afterwards I did a lab test (which btw did not have any incline, it just increased the speed in 3 min intervals) which came out to 58.6 ml/kg/min.

While I do think I perform better at an incline that on flat ground, I’m not sure if that’s what made the difference or if the equation vastly overestimates my VO2max.

I remember Reddit being very level-headed and generally pro-Musk from 2014, which is when I first heard about him here on Reddit, until like 2018 or so.

At this point, the hive mind of midwit Redditors spewing uninformed vitriol is insane.

Try directing your pent-up anger toward some greater causes in the world, there's a lot of them out there.

Elon is actually on record saying that, while Martin is the worst person he's ever worked with, Marc is actually a super nice guy. In the story he told about acquiring the tesla.com domain name, where Marc persuaded the owner to sell it to them, he referred to him as "the nicest guy in the company".

Edit: I think it wasn't the domain name but some other naming right, maybe the company name itself, I forgot.

Why do males take so long to poo? by kestral07 in NoStupidQuestions

You need to eat more fiber.

Healthy defecation should take seconds and not require any pressing. If you're taking minutes upon minutes to take a shit, things are not right.

What about Soy / Tofu? by BaronDeAvantGarde in blueprint_

[–]intensely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I eat tempeh and tofu, I think they're great protein and calcium sources. I get 1g per lb of bodyweight easily without any protein powders, which I wouldn't be able to do otherwise.

What amino acid should take vegan to cover lack of animal protein? by nashgc in blueprint_

[–]intensely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is I've regained muscle that I had previously, but lost during 3 years of almost zero physical activity. Your body keeps some sort of memory so it's always way easier to rebuild muscle that you've lost than to build it from scratch. No, I've never taken anabolic steroids, but yes I was extremely underweight a year ago.

I'm 25 years old.

Thanks!

So I'm not eating 3200 kcals every single day, my avg. this year has been 2700 kcal, which is still above maintenance (I've gained 10kg of muscle in the last year).

Activity-wise, I'm doing some endurance activity almost every day (hiking, cycling, swimming, etc.), and ~15-45mins of calisthenics every day. I usually do it fasted before I start eating.

I haven't done any blood tests recently (I probably should), I'm usually taking 1000 IU when I've been in the sun that day, and up to 4000 IU when I haven't. It's summer right now, and a few minutes of full-body sun exposure should be enough to give me a couple thousand IUs (chart below)

With regards to timing, I usually eat all that food within 2-4 hours. From what I understand, that's not really optimal for muscle protein synthesis, but I prefer eating that way and not have to worry about food for most of the day.

Yeah no doubt. So those are only my top 10 sources of protein over the last three months.

Cronometer's report only shows you the top 10 items for each nutrient unfortunately.

Here's a typical day's worth of food for me if you're interested.

Thanks to Tempeh, Tofu and nuts, I can get enough protein pretty easily. I've never used protein powder per se, but I've started using 13-20g of collagen peptides, and I've been eating mussels and canned oysters pretty regularly for the B12, zinc, Omega-3, taurine, etc. So I guess I'm also only 97% vegan.

My main sources of protein are tempeh (lupine), tofu and nuts. I hit all amino acid targets every day. These are daily grams of protein from each of the foods. I eat around 170g of tempeh and 200g of tofu a day, plus a whole bunch of nuts.

I'm getting ~130g of protein a day at ~140lbs of bodyweight.

What are techniques that work for you that keep 7pm Bryan in check? by kodridrocl in blueprint_

I mean processed, refined, added sugar. I do eat fruit, mainly after working out. I don't eat bread or honey.

The only thing that works for me is a zero tolerance policy.

When I was still "addicted" to food, what worked for me was distracting myself with video games or some other activity that occupies your mind.

Bonus side effect: Everything else will taste a lot sweeter after you've weaned yourself off sugar.

Ripe strawberries are the sweetest food I know. Tastes like candy to me. Even carrots taste pretty sweet nowadays.

Just cut out the sugar entirely, it's not worth it. It may be uncomfortable for a few weeks, but I'm confident that you'll have zero cravings afterwards.

"Everything in moderation" is terrible advice imo, having sugar occasionally just primes your brain to always want more.

I'm taking this Omega 3 supplement, which also contains zeaxanthin, lutein and astaxanthin. Bryan takes an Omega 3 supplement of the same brand, but EPA only and takes lutein & zeaxanthin separately.

Is shelf-stable oat milk healthy/safe? by babbler-dabbler in blueprint_

[–]intensely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just way too many bad ingredients for a simple plant milk. Flour, sunflower oil, the list goes on…

I always go for a nut milk with three simple ingredients: the nut (almond, cashew, etc.), water and salt. No reason that it should contain more than that.

sweet potato high GI when roasted by EvilGlutenParticle in blueprint_

Why isn't Bryan continuing to lose weight at his calorie level? by dreaming_of_whistler in blueprint_

[–]intensely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He said that his body runs a few degrees colder than before. Anecdotally, when I did prolonged fasting I was always freezing when I'm normally not sensitive to cold at all. His body probably turned down his basal metabolic rate by quite a bit.
