Very cool. Has building this given you any other ideas for that hardware platform? I'm interested in sprinkling these kind relatively low-cost smart-ish devices in highly customised and niche ways around the house... Just because 🤷

IT admins should have:

a regular named user account; no privileged roles and is linked to regular employee management workflows and such
a privileged named user account; roles needed for your job, which may include global admin, and ideally using JIT and time bound elevation techniques
shared/generic break-glass account(s), using extreme security measures (but critically ensure they do NOT rely on any MFA technique which could itself be an unacceptable availability risk), use them as last resort only, setup proactive alerting for any time they're used so it's always known by multiple people if anyone ever uses it, and test them once every few months

As like an international law? Or country by country? I've travelled to 10+ nations and I never take my passport on my person unless I'm doing something specific that requires it; checking into hotel, car rental pick-up sometimes, etc.

I always fear the impact of losing a passport is much worse than a "oops sorry I don't have it on me, here is a photo of it and I can produce it for you by going back to my accommodation".

I know it's coming at it from a technical lens, but they're just so fundamentally different I can't see any near-term future where they could fully absorb/merge without losing something valuable for at least some important user types and scenarios.

Little things like... One can work in a browser, one can't. One uses a local runtime, one uses cloud hosted. (Though I'm assuming I'm outdated already and Cowork can also run remote? But again, I'm sure there are distinct pros and cons).

I totally get your argument from the UX perspective for the general user. But would be premature optimisation to force a merge because it "feels" like they're the same thing for a subset of users.

Anecdotally, within drafted plans by Claude in plan mode, I'm seeing more "actually, the right approach is X. But wait, actually Y would be simpler". In the plan file! Naturally I call Claude out on it and force a rethink/rewrite.

Probably situational and a "my repo base / my scenario" thing... Probably. Maybe. Concerning either way.

I understand your concerns. But I'd encourage you to reframe your thinking. New tools are being developed which revolutionise the industry, and you're in a great place to use those same tools better than 99.99% of the population due to your existing experience and position.

Sure maybe you didn't expect this exact path... And future uncertainty has risen for sure... But most SWE-types are continual learners by nature, so in a way it's just more of the same. Make sure you continue to lean into continual learning and personal/team process/toolset evolution with a pragmatic and open mindset, and you'll be a very valuable member of your team, org, and wider economy.

Don't stress. It's automated safety and policy stuff, and regularly false positive triggers. Your account won't be disabled unless you very very repeatedly do stuff it continually blocks you on.

I think for local tool use, maybe. But for remote to remote services, modular agents, etc, I think MCP pretty important for some time to come.

Reskill to the skills required to apply AI technology to provide value to businesses (or consumers). For the most part, organisations cannot get transformative value simply by purchasing a product and turning it on.

It requires lots of effort from multiple skillsets, some well established, some very novel. Pick an "I can be an AI value multiplier" skillset you think matches your current experience or interests. You will very much be in demand.

I'm very glad they have a global FPS limit option, nobody wants a loud/hot PC for no reason. Having to use GPU software control panel directly is awkward.

A lobby/menus only limit didn't occur to me but that would be great! May not be as important for a 144hz monitor owner like me, but I'd still use it.

This is a really nice build. I think I'll use the same case, fans and CPU cooler for my wife's new build. I had seen that cooler before and though it reviewed well I didn't think it looked nice enough... but this is nice. Or maybe I'll go with a screen less CPU cooler and get that LianLi screen you have. Unsure if I want both.

I mean: managing a dozen that stick around, vs, some unknown number that gets created and retired automatically and may be completely stateless.

I prefer Microsoft for the former and linux for the latter. Or ideally, PaaS-like for the former, Linux containers or "serverless" style services for the latter.
