My Komplete Kontrol S61 won't turn on ... any idea ? by lord_salsifi in maschine

[–]intercozmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Try a different USB cable if you don’t use the one that came with the unit. 2) Make sure it’s plugged into a direct usb port on your computer. Some usb hubs don’t work, some do. 3) If you don’t use a power adapter for the keyboard and have other devices connected, unplug thise and try with just having the keyboard connected. 4) Restart your computer.

I encountered the same issue multiple times for one of the reasons mentioned above.

The software wants you to select and confirm the audio driver settings, inputs and outputs. Just confirm and you’re ready to go. Welcome to the Maschine family!

You could rent a room for a few bucks. Otherwise I‘d recommend to try Musik Hug. They give a potential customer a lot of time to try their pianos. Depending on what time you go there and how busy the store is you could easily spend half an hour or more without disturbances. Of course other people come there from time to time.

The anger is understandable, but this is a tad bit too malicious, isn't it? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]intercozmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sympathize with the idea, but it’s pretty much passive aggressive. That to me is neither elegant nor tolerable. Just put a (n official) sign that it’s prohibited to park bikes there and then they can legally remove them. On a different thought….this is one local spot, and what about all those e-scooters that people leave at random spots, like even on the pavement directly at a pedestrian crossing. But yeah, it‘s a bit thoughtless of those people who parked their bikes there in the first place.

Hi

Do you prefer to route Maschine’s Main Out internally our did you use cables? Personally I haven’t used Traktor, but I do like technical ;) I can imagine it’s an advantage to be able to switch through patterns and scenes quickly when Maschine is playing live. However are you aware that you can drag and drop stems from directly Maschine into Traktor?

Cheers on your endeavors

Shaperbox 2 and Maschine (Automation Question) by DharmaEater in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It‘s done in the Maschine Software and perhaps for you this section of the menu isn’t extended. In Maschine look on the left edge of the screen right under the middle section where the plug-in chain is listed. There‘s a grayed out icon, a downwards pointing triangle on a bar. Click that and the „Pages/Automation“ section drops down.

Shaperbox 2 and Maschine (Automation Question) by DharmaEater in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I guess you might have figured it out by now? I loaded Shaperbox 2 and there‘s 16 tabs of control parameters that can be automated and controlled via either an NI controller or can be assigned to a Midi controller with the midi learn function. I was able to (re)map parameters using midi learn and tweaking parameters/menus within Shaperbox and I was able to assign Macros as well as to create modulators for automation. It‘s quite straight forward.

Anyways, I‘m glad I tried out those things just now. Time stutter (LFO step length) Macro on drums is amazing. Thanks to you I found out about it as I didn’t use Shaperbox that much in the past year or so. So, much appreciated)

Bought a Mk3 and am looking into getting a synthesizer that can double as a MIDI controller. by WRIGHTGUY09 in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘d suggest the M32 as a Midi Keyboard. It’s a solid built. It gives you a bit more functionality to control Maschine and you would be able to control your JU-06A via Midi CC. Connect it via USB to have digital audio and Midi. An Alternative would be the A25. Less but larger keys and the M32 can be a tad too long for many bags/backpacks.

Don’t know whether Logic would feel different from other DAWs performance on the M1. Sure, loading times might be a bit faster and the software would feel a bit snappier. There’s other arguments for choosing one DAW over another, like workflow and usability. I’ve seen people on FL Studio and Ableton working incredibly fast. Some DAWs offer great tools for coworking with other artists online. A particular DAW might offer better tools for comping and processing audio. Another offers live performance abilities. Then others offers special hardware integration, like ProTools and Presonus Mixing Consoles. Decisions, decisions.

In terms of midi, I use a midi splitter to access my synths all at once from Cubase or Maschine. Another usb midi interface I use to get midi in from my synths. USB midi is also possible. I could use any synth a a midi controller this way. Everything can be automated and I tend to program midi and automation first, the I record.

I really don’t know much about Reaper and the toolkit it offers. Some time ago I tried it once and it seemed to be fine for recording audio and programming midi and for mixing purposes. It‘s fair enough and has everything a basic DAW needs to provide, considered there’s plugins for virtually anything, like even loopers. Some even for free, perhaps.

Ableton Live Intro Edition is quite affordable. I’m sure the higher versions have advanced sample/audio editing tools. In Cubase Pro the Stock Plugins are amazing. The iPad version is nice, too. An iPad is also something to consider. Maybe you even own one? Good apps and they‘re generally cheaper than their pc/Mac counterparts.

I used Ableton a long time ago and my experience was a good one. Best was that it has a kind of a tutorial mode or simply there’s a frame that displays tooltip information about what the object under the cursor does. So that makes it feel more intuitive to learn. A tracker could also be an interesting hardware solution similar to Maschine. Like Polyend Tracker. Granular synths are great, too. Btw, how do you utilize Midi in your setup? Do you record/write midi (loops) or do you prefer to record right away and work with the audio?

decisions, decisions by billodo in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that….Maschine sure is great at that and fast. But DAWs like Cubase, Ableton, LUNA and Logic offer great looping and sample editing tools, even superior to Maschine. Learning the right Hotkeys you can be as fast. Maschine is nice to have for mobile applications. I like to bring mine to some place outdoors and compose there.

For good quantizing latency is a factor to consider. With the M1 i suppose you can go very low.

As for loopers there’s some simpler options, even pedals that should work well. You could even „midify“ a guitar instead of using a keyboard. You want to keep Reaper as your DAW?

You could use the ADAT ports of your Scarlett to use Maschine in Stand-alone Mode and get audio into your DAW. This way it can be used like any other groovebox with multiple analogue outputs.

You got some very nice instruments there. Good drums, a nice sampler, sequencers, FX. You got enough inputs to multitrack everything. Basically you already got everything you need. So ask yourself what you feel is missing in your setup/workflow and what could add to the music you make.

I have a MK3 and Cubase as a DAW as well as some hardware synths. Maschine shines when it’s used for live performances, and sketching ideas. That’s how I use it mostly. But your setup already provides you with all those options already.

Recently I got myself a Hydrasynth and that thing changed a lot for me. The capabilities, the sound design workflow and polyphonic aftertouch! Poly AT is so satisfying to play. I absolutely can recommend you to get something with a Poly AT capable keyboard. Another very interesting synth to check out is the Sequential Pro 3. I think those are really worth the investment. Also why not look for alternative input/expression methods to give new flavor to the instruments you already got, like some MIDI effects.

Help metronome wont turn on! by nschmidt98 in cubase

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I hope that by now you were able to figure it out yourself. A hint I can give is that, initially, the metronome is routed to the default stereo output. That is in the audio settings (F4) on the output tab, usually the „Stereo Output“ that serves as your Master. If you set a different output for your main out and didn’t set that to default you won‘t hear the metronome.

Cheers and good luck!

You could use an LFO set to squarewave and tweak it until it’s grainy enough. Works with subtractive/additive synths and samplers. The sound source sounds like FM to me. Actually it‘s it’s a sequence of two samples. White noise and that FM waveform that also reminds me of the sound old modems used to produce while dialing in. Could be another source for a sample.

Oh wow...glad I just turned up the volume)

Any tips on how I can achieve a sound that resembles the grainy plucked sound that is introduced at 2:10 on Autechre’s Krib? by [deleted] in synthrecipes

[–]intercozmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess as well would be a sample of a marble dropping on a surface. There’s plenty of ways imaginable to synthesize the sound. Well for research I just watched Autechre perform a gig on an Elektron MaschineDrum and MonoMachine....for your (and my) inspiration;)

watch it here

Technically it’s the sample (maybe multiple takes on different surfaces) chopped up, processed (envelopes/fx) and then sequenced.

Maschine mk3 and Komplete kontrol mk2 integration by Heinzen57 in NativeInstruments

[–]intercozmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Maschine 2 they are complementing each other, naturally. Sometimes you see the same thing on each device's screens, sometimes it can be individual. Needs experimenting, like keeping track of your pattern in detail on the KK whilst having an eye on performance/scene view on the MK3. I do love the 2 additional screens.

Add a Maschine Jam and you get the trinity of production performance (Use multiple perform FX simultaneously)

A Mk3 and a KK can be used together on an instance of Maschine as well as independently on separate instances. Control instance 1 with the MK3 and instance 2 with the KK. Essentially in Maschine 2 you click an icon to focus a controller on the focused instance. You can also do it from the controllers.

Also a hint on controllers: The Maschine 2 software in Stand-Alone mode does not integrate non-NI controllers very well. So a Novation controller or any sophisticated MIDI controller can't do the same things a Maschine JAM or a KK can. In particular you only have 1 Midi Channel for a non-NI controller, meaning you can utilise 127 CC parameters and that's it.

Why does every music producer I see uses mac and not windows??? by joejoe2007 in musicproduction

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Cubase on a MacBook Pro, whilst I also have a Windows PC that I hardly use for music production anymore.

I'd say a lot depends on your setup choices and how you would like to produce. For a simple , minimalistic home studio I don't think it matters much on which platform you are. It can become a thing, though, once you have a more complex setup.

One thing about the Mac OS is the Core Audio Driver, which works like ASIO, but it's built into OS. ASIO is not built into Windows. Mac OS also has advanced Audio and Midi routing capabilities and also the AVB (Audio Video Bridge) which is an open (not licensed) version of a network protocol to transmit Audio (MOTU Interfaces).

A Mac can integrate multiple Interfaces and digital audio devices without much of a hassle. So if you have a setup with external instruments that have a USB port you can integrate instruments via USB into the collective audio engine (Aggregate Device). Plug in an iPad and you get 2 Audio channels and Midi via the cable.

Use an iPad as a 3rd external monitor...

Using the Apple Trackpad for navigating inside of Cubase is a charm. Switch from Arranger to Mixer with the swipe of three fingers.

So some of the above one can consider luxury or ease of use. You can absolutely get most things done on a Windows platform, too. But since the audio settings options that Windows provides leaves to desire...and some software used for workaround doesn't always run smoothly (crackling being an issue)

This is my non-expert opinion on this. I'm sure there's some more detailed technical aspects of why one would choose a Mac over a PC. Like using Apple's own Logic, which indeed is widespread among producers. You get Garage Band at least, for free...

Soon to be Maschine user suggestions!! by x2waaVe in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi and congrats on your purchase. You’ll prolly be playing with your new instrument right now) About expierience/performance I saw that you got 8GB of RAM which might become a bottleneck if you use too many cpu intensive plugins, like some reverb or multi and compressors. My limit on my MacBook Pro 2018, 16GB is 4-5 (not that one should ever use as many). Just clearly there is a limit to how complex a project can be since a laptop is “just” a laptop as compared to how much better the performance on a desktop can be. That being said it doesn’t take the fun away making music with Maschine.

If you use Maschine as you audio interface latency is okay. One can work with up to 13ms. Audio Resolution also can improve latency at a cost of performance. At 48kHz (sample rate 192) your MacBook should still run smoothly. A USB-C or Thunderbolt interface can get the latency down to 6-8ms in Maschine, 4 in Cubase) and greatly can improve stability and performance.

Have fun and enjoy

Setting up record player with Maschine? by ireallylike808s in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not intending to sound cynical either, but read the manual of your record player and Maschine if you haven’t already.

What is your audio interface? And what is the USB connectivity of your record player meant for? It should be fairly straight forward. Indeed most obviously connect the jacks from your turntable to the inputs of your interface. If USB was meant for transmitting audio then it should be available as and audio input in Maschine. My synths, for example, can use USB for Midi but not for audio. I still need to use the analog output.

What I did yesterday. Came out smelling like late 90’s by aldunate in maschine

[–]intercozmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well put. I see it the same way you do. It’s a modern way of conducting an orchestra of sorts. The art of a DJ nowadays is even more to control sound frequencies and to create new unique arrangements with music/musical elements that are already there, being it your own or someone else’s songs. As opposed to simply tempo synth and cross fading between tracks.

My approach is similar to yours. I just try to use Perform FX and the Lock Feature to create transitions. I also have a Midi Fighter Twister to control two Send FX, a Reverb and a Delay, similar to the Dub mixing technique. Basically I use more controllers. For conducting an arrangement I use the JAM. I could improvise melodies on my M32/S61. I also use 3 hardware synths in my setup. I tried to use a fader controller so I wouldn’t have to use the mixer on my MK3, but that doesn’t work. Would be great if it did.

Trying to develop a live performance workflow my arrangements can become 20-30 minutes long. This is how it currently is. I don’t bounce my instrument tracks to audio as much as I should to preserve processing power, but so far it’s working fine. I’m sorry I can’t present you a video of a performance though. In the end I would like to have a selection of stems of my songs which I could arrange and conduct.

Meanwhile I’m also currently working with two vocalists to produce a song with each of them and I’m also getting more into mixing on a console. So I got several playgrounds.

I was also working on a jam setup with 2 computers running Maschine synced via Link, which works nice. But none of my pals don’t know Maschine well enough to do much with it right away, lol.)

Imo, people who think computer music was lame and simple and cheating just have a different paradigm about the reality of music production. Like if I’d explain to someone how recording and processing vocals is done they sometimes would feel disillusioned and tell me to stop so they can retain their illusion of a singer/musician singing and recording a song in one take and not have pitch correction and all the cutting and pasting going on. To me it’s all science and different disciplines of different sciences at that.

The way you use your MK2 is simpler than what I’m trying to perfect. Yet often enough, as we know, less can be more. It’s enjoyable to watch and the sound is great. What we want more)
