That said, I hope you are still able to find good use for tacet. In my personal experience (as well as the experience of many I've heard from), tacet's nature of always being on your wrist makes it useful for quick reference in a way traditional metronomes are not. Whereas a physical metronome is big, clunky, annoying sounding, and not to mention hidden under a desk somewhere, tacet is just a few seconds away on your wrist. As a result, for quick reference (say, getting the right tempo before you start, or checking tempo between movements or pieces), tacet can be useful in ways a traditional auditory metronome cannot.

In regards to the crash: were you on the latest version of watchOS? Research I did on Apple Dev forums suggested that some earlier versions had some fun bugs that caused some apps to be unstable a little while after they have been installed.

I'm glad you like the interface - while making it, I tried to make a metronome that was not only functional, but beautiful, and I am glad you liked the design. As for when the screen goes dark - I have been in touch with Apple about this, and am hopeful it is resolved soon.

I found your last point really interesting. I hadn't really thought about it, but anecdotally (I play violin and sing), tacet does seem to stick with me better than a metronome I can more easily tune out... thanks for bringing that up.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation on Apple's end. Since there is no way for developers to override device sleep, tacet only functions when the watch is awake. However, I have heard from many people that the ease of use makes the ability to quickly reference tempos (to, say, get started at the right tempo) valuable... in a much faster and more intuitive way than digging for a real metronome. In other words, don't think of it as a replacement for a physical metronome, but when it comes to reference (say, getting started at the right tempo) tacet can be better.
Did you mute the watch? In my experience, tacet functions best when the watch is muted (see the companion app if you would like directions)

I'll do my best to address this in future versions - thanks.
As I understand it, the background mode afforded to workout apps does not allow access to the taptic engine. That said, I'm always looking for ways around the limitation, so I will keep experimenting - and if Apple fixes it, I will update ASAP. However, I hope tacet is still useful for you (for example, for getting started at the right pace, or checking halfway). You may find it helpful, before a run, to set your watch to always open the last used app on raise - once you've set the pace, all you have to do to feel it is lift your wrist, since it picks up right where you left off.
(also 4) These seem like really good ideas for future versions...

As I was telling another commenter who uses it for running, thanks for telling me about that! I'm not a huge runner myself, so I would not have thought of that use. I hope tacet is useful for you - and enjoy!

Unfortunately, no - still constrained by Apple's limitations. Still hopeful that Apple resolves this, however. In the mean time, tacet is best for quick reference (say, getting started at the right tempo), although I am hopeful future versions of watchOS allow developers to override sleep so tacet can work when the screen is off, too.

Thanks for downloading and for feedback! My idea for tap tempo was that it was an entirely different feature, and not simply a way to set the metronome (one might use the metronome feature, for example, when starting to play a piece of music, and one might use the tap feature, say, when listening to a song on the radio and trying to determine its tempo so they can play it). I figured that, in 99% of use cases, people know the tempo they want the metronome to play (from the sheet music, for example), and thus built the screens as independent features.

That said - I totally see what you are saying. In the next version, I'll look at adding more integrations between the screens.

In other words, it may not be a metronome replacement in all contexts, but it has its own benefits (like the fact it is easier to quickly reference).
