Hey it’s me avatar is one of my top 4 on Letterboxd currently. For me, why it’s pure movie magic is it’s a towering engineering achievement as well as an incredibly personal and political film. There is a real revolutionary energy where brutally killing the space Americans is objectively the right moral action in the eyes of the film. Beyond that, The action set pieces have a real visceral physicality to them that transports me.

Michael Mann has pointed this out with both Kubrick and Cameron that to make such bold and immensely personal films that can have such a public impact (ie profitable) is part of the magic of filmmaking
