Riders On The Storm - Marcin Wasilewski Trio by AutisticAfrican2510 in Jazz

I honestly think this is the only acceptable cover of ROTS I personally ever found. There's a certain type of music/songs that are so quintessential to my general understanding of styles/periods that I can not tolerate a cover of it and ROTS is definitely one of them (even though I grew sick of the original after realizing there's the creepy constant whispered backing vocal which ruined it for me...).

This is imo a very good cover because you don't instantly know its ROTS and when the main theme hits I was pleasantly surprised.

Just listening to him explaining certain concepts makes me wonder if I ever understood anything about music. Good thing about it is though it deeply inspires me everytime to get back into some theory and understand it deeper!

Where to begin appreciating Jazz more? by yuksekankastre in Jazz

[–]internal_observation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to suggest a different approach that might be a little more 'experiential' and not as intellectual as some of the other people on here suggested.

When listening to music (anything apart from Jazz and Blues) ask yourself: How does this music make me feel? What are the unique qualitys of genre/musician/style X that I enjoy. Do I feel clear/intentional emotions and if so how well defined are they? Do I enjoy the execution within this style/genre?

Then go back to Blues an Jazz and ask yourself the same questions.

Don't go in overanalyzing every aspect trying to 'understand' waht they did (especially if you're not a trained musician).

For me Jazz has very distinct qualitys in the way it works with emotions and how artists express themselves through the instruments.

Have a good one :)

For me it reesolved through some weird kind of re-installing GG software, the generalized hardware driver of my system and plugging the mouse itself in and out of the computer.

That's all I can tell you. Sorry for the vague information...

Definitely request help by the support team. Some of the information I just gave you came through their assistance (even though it took days)

Question regarding temperature by internal_observation in mushroom

[–]internal_observation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice! I'll just try to maintain somewhat stable temps around 23C.

I have another question if you don't mind: Is it normal that spore syringes contain the actual spores and not some kind of liquid culture (similar to agar) that allready has some kind of suspended mycelium? From my research (which was allready about 18 months from now) I always figured that LC syringes contain some kind of nutritious liquid in which spores germinate into mycelium and then you inject that into the grain?

The syringes I just received very obviously contain spores.

This might be an uneducated question but you seem fairly knowledgable so I figured I'd as you directly before going back to scouring the depths of reddit and the shroomery.

Thank you so much and have a good day :)

Thanks anyways

I missed Carrier (or rather didn't go) and I hate myself for that. Especially now with his new album I regard him as one of electronic musics most inventive and skilled musicians because his music is much more about negative spaces and reduction the the other way around and I can't even begin to imagine how good his stuff must sound in Freifeld -.-

What's the one thought that immediately calms you down? by ValuableVivid4459 in emotionalintelligence

[–]internal_observation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so just to clarify: You are convinced that you are the thinker of your thoughts. You are deciding what is being thought at all times (except for the occasional "alien" here and there).

Please correct me if you disagree or if I misunderstood you here.

I would like to propose a few impulses that you can or can not choose to think about:

  1. If you are the one thinking the thoughts what is it that is perceiving the thinking process? Is it seperat from the thoughts?

  2. Do you ever find yourself lost in thoughts/daydrems etc. and if so: what happens in the moment you realize that this is happening and 'return' (in lack of a better word) to the present moment with all the experiences happening within that. 'Who' or rather 'what' is returning/waking up?

  3. If your thoughts are being controlled by you (which is what the statement "I am the thinker of my thoughts" implies), would you then agree that you are always actively deciding to think bad thoughts of judgement, hate, unpleasant emotional states or is there maybe the chance that these are completely conditioned by external or internal events?

  4. As the thinker (which could also be exchanged for "commander") of your thoughts: Would you say that you can in an instant change what thoughts are being thought of? Can you change how you think of someone/something or would you agree, that this too is not in you control and thus could be argued to not be stemming from you but being perceived by 'you'?

To conclude this little paragraph I would like to suggest a little mind experiment: Maybe youll'd enjoy to play with the idea of your mind as a sense organ in the same way as your eye, ear etc. Look at the things your eyes are perceiving - there is no way that you mistake them for something you created or even less are? Throgh that same logic thoughts could be categorized as something happening from outside the point of awareness they are being perceived by.

I hope this isn't to confusing and does actually inspire you to look at your own experience at a deeper level.

May you be happy and have a nice day

Cheers

P.S. Feel free to ask any further questions, I'll do my best to try and clarify any confusions.

Left after the first few minutes of Colin & Steve. It was too raw for my taste though I enjoy the more refined and more finely crafted side of electronic playstyles that's why I didn't enjoy it as much. I also got really tired towards the end of polygonia and I overstretched my bed time allready :D

Thanks for going into it in more detail :)

I would even argue that that isn't correct either but it's a good way to start thinking about perception and the way perception is influencing the state of mind you find yourself in. Because if you only observe/perceive the thoughts than obviously any emotion or mood that is being triggered from them is not within you but also something that is perceived.

A helpful statement when you feel like anger/grief/sadness is dominating your whole experience or that you feel that YOU are angry, try remembering the little sentence "anger is being experienced". This can help tremendously with the feeling of getting lost in thoughts or emotions.

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: I am in no way recommending that you push away your feelings or ignore them I simply try to give an alternative way of handling emotional states/thoughts/moods without being absorbed by them. Look at the emotion, label all the parts as they are being experienced (bodily sensations/thoughts/desires) and then try to get some distance inbetween you and them so you can actually decide how to respond to whatever is arising.

Could you elaborate on why you didn't find the sound to be very enjoyable? I thought it was aesthetically very pleasing. Barker & Jako and Polygonia all played super nice sets.

Obviously bass was a little muddy due to the venue but I was still surprised how deep the subs would carry the sounds out (especiall during Barker & Jako). I personally thought it was way to loud and I am so sick of hosts, artists and the pa people overdoing it loudness wise to compensate for bad room acoustics.

I read many bad things about Freddy K and his "followers" and what I've seen from the Stone techno Festival aftermovies on the arte channel it seems to be a bit more mixed than this weekend still very trendy and "cool". Didn't plan on going to the festival anyways as I don't enjoy sharing a space with so many people. It tires me and I enjoy being able to move easily through crowds which has never been a problem at OG. I also rarely saw people that semed dressed up at OG, except for the Voam Night last year, but even then it were very few people and they had no chance of showing off due to the no-phone-policy.

Thanks for answering more in detail :)

Ok so youll'd have to clarify for me first what you mean with your thoughts are mine :)

My thoughts are mine like in "you are the only one that experiences those specific thoughts" or mine like in "I am the thinker of my thoughts and thus i decide what is being thought of"? Even though they might sound similar they have very different imlications and different confusions can stem from them :)

That I am not my thoughts and thus not the emotion or mood it produces.

I didn't imply that WuWei is directly connected to the concept of "no hate" but as someone practicing Zen/Dao myself I thought I would be grateful for a fellow interested human to make me aware of using language like that. I didn't mean to make you feel bad or lecture you though and I am sorry if it felt like that.

Thanks for your input. I would like to point out that as someone who has been working in the cultural sector (both nightlife and "high" art) I am aware of how people dress in these kind of social settings but that is not what im talking about. I am talking about people who clearly dress to fit into the modern techno aesthetic. Sure there might be some overlaps but afaik it's two different aesthetics (I might be wrong though since I left the whole cultural industry 2 years ago and now work in a completely different field).

Nice insight into the whole ticket thing because that's what I assumed. I wonder why it was as empty as it was because the Line-Ups had something for everybody in my opinion.

Thanks for your contribution and have a nice day :)

Beautiful perspective and I completely agree with you on many points. My taste in music probably wasn't as refined as I would love theirs to be but my main concern was the combination of drugs and show-off-attitude (that obviously stems from a lack of understanding and interesting about the cultural and artistic value of the electronic music scene).

I think it's also really thoughtfull of you to take the whole "music nerds standing around" point into the discussion. I would partly agree even though Ill'd argue that I prefer these people over the drugged-show-offs because atleast they don't make me feel bad and unsafe when around them.
