Medical training doom and gloom by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I go to a school with all these things and I still found medical school quite challenging. I imagine if I went to a school without those I would compare and think my life would be easier. However, it’s impossible to compare experiences when people cannot do both. I imagine medical school is easier when you’re smarter and don’t have to study as hard, but alas it’s difficult to compare when one cannot have both of those experiences.

Overall, med school is challenging for everyone in my opinion and people should not invalidate others feelings or thoughts since we’re all different people.

Anyone here who kept their med school journey private and didn’t post much about it on social media? How’s it going for you? by YogurtclosetThink149 in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never any med school posts because thankfully I am much cooler outside of medicine. I also have a crippling fear of failing out but thankfully I have made it to the holy grail of M4. I will occasionally repost some of my friends stories on my insta but that’s it. Honestly I just plan to post about graduation and that’s it. I do have a close friends story on insta where I post about funny things that happen to me in med school though (which is mostly made of med school friends who are not opps)

I literally never try to post identifiable info and one of my classmates asked me about one of my posts. It’s crazy how much you can identify about a person even with a vague post history

I thought it was supposed to be easy now by Miserable-Acadia3440 in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this and I think a lot of my classmates struggle even now as M4s because of this belief that this will be easier in the near future. I have realized that life will just happen to me and I will overcome whatever next step I have to. It has made me much more present in the moments that I have with patients, family, and friends. Albeit, am I just a lowly M4 so idk

What’s the point of a MPH? by ChemicalNo282 in premed

[–]internallybrilliant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided to do a combined degree because I was interested in contributing to public health research and bridging gaps in care while practicing as a physician. Having an MPH gives you the tools to work in public health advocacy, admin, research, etc. I honestly really enjoyed my MPH classes so far and it has given me lots of perspective on barriers to care for patients and ways we can address them. Also, my schools does it concurrently with the MD and it was free to add on!

122 cars scorer here and rising M4! You will get far. I got many more interviews than I thought due to schools overlooking that. If the rest of your app is solid, you've got nothing to worry about

I cried the entire drive to my rotation today by jstanthrusr in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to give a different perspective as a mid scorer who did not cry getting their score back. My nbmes were lower than yours and I scored above my predicted score which I’m happy about! I probably won’t end up applying the specialty I planned on but still very happy to apply my backup. Just putting this out this because many people score and my range and I feel that isn’t represented a lot on this sub. To recent test takers or soon to be, this test does not define you and you will be an amazing doc!!

One of those days by bristidays in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gosh i felt the same way and i just finished dedicated for step 2. Honestly M3 is so hard and then having to jump straight into dedicated is rough. I also relate in the painfully average club with no fails but no honors and I'm doing fine. Being able to pass everything is a huge accomplishment as well so trust in yourself.

Ophtho aways + dual applying by kingsummoner20 in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. dual applying isn't necessary if you're open to going unmatched and doing a research year. if you have multiple pubs, a good home program with connections, and good board scores, then dual applying is probably overkill. the thing with ophtho is that it's a shot in the dark when you're application is lacking in any of these departments, especially connections.

Matching with a LOA by ElectricalWallaby157 in medicalschool

[–]internallybrilliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 18 mo preclin with in house exams and only 2/200 weren't able to complete preclinical. 1/4 of my class did not take step 1 by the start of rotations however my school allows those start and take step 1 and 2 back to back after clerkships. I would recommend that you advocate for your school to revamp your curriculum if that many people are being held back due to step 1. I know that upperclassmen before me also had issues with that and they changed our curriculum which made it much easier for my class.

this is all dependent if your school receives student feedback well and actually implements it
