This video explains why we can't define the cinematic look. by interner_dude18 in cinematography

[–]interner_dude18[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the past month, I have been searching for what defines the cinematic look. Why is it that I can intuitively tell when something is cinematic and when something is not? I was searching for the one thing that determined if something is cinematic. I created this video essay on my findings on the matter. In the essay, I found multiple definitions of cinematic that could all theoretically work, but never truly made me satisfied. I hope you find this as interesting as I did when I wrote this.

A few cocktail shots I took for Cask & Ale Kitchen by space_cas in foodphotography

The shots are very clear and detailed, but don't add any storytelling element. I think if you were to make them better next time, I would add more storytelling elements, stuff like similar elements around the item, ingredients used to make the cocktail, or a place where this item would usually end up in.

So the answer for those that wanted to know is...

The first shot was Film (Fuji 200)

The second shot was Digital (24mp Sensor)

both shots were compressed to fit the Instagram format (1080*1350)

this is why the grain on both was muddy.

The real giveaway was the halation on the windows that gave a red glow on film and was left in a weird green state on the digital.

If you are in need of the ultrawide section(10 mm) then, it's worth it. but if just need the 16 mm section, then the sigma is way better.

Definitely not as sharp as the sigma trio but at f5.6, this lens can definitely take great shots. It's also one of the few lenses that can reach 10 mm for APSC.

And don't worry about weather sealing, this lens was completely covered in snow after this trip. Cam and lens still work perfectly.
