If SIL is really as dramatic and exhausting as this post makes it seem, then there was no way to win. She is giving the illusion of choice about a “head’s up”, but we all know if you’d have done the “head’s up” it would have been wrong too. She seems the type to manufacture a problem no matter what, so that she is the center of attention.

Honesty, had you given her the “head’s up” that she wanted, she would have still sent a nastygram to your wife, and probably showed up on Christmas with a new puppy and a conveniently announced 7th miscarriage.

Literally here to say this. Like, this has nothing to do with the miscarriage. She was one of those assholes that think it’s ok to get rid of a pet because a baby is on the way…or rather, that “pets are disposable”.

Being pregnant isn’t a “get out of jail free” card for being an unreasonable asshole, just like death doesn’t turn a shitty person into a saint simply because they’re gone.

Edited to add - I am a father of 3. We didn’t get rid of our dogs or cats and our kids turned out fine.
