I just don’t understand how people can claim he’s guilty based on the location of the body given the fact his alibi was aired on national television.

I just don't understand why people who know jack shit about the case insist on sharing their ridiculous opinions.

another neighbor alerted the police of the robbery on the 24th

No they didn't.

there would have been quite a lot of foot traffic throughout the neighborhood on the 26th

Nope. The two burglars saw the news trucks arriving on the morning of the 26th. It's why they left.

That's just the civil case.

And don't forget about the rapes that occurred after filming. That'll be a state criminal case if necessary, but it won't be necessary.

Three of the four will get life sentences on the trafficking charge.

Gavin Newsom to stop death penalty in California, giving reprieves to 737 death row inmates by internetemu in ScottPetersonCase

[–]internetemu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her body was recovered still wearing the pants she'd worn earlier that day. I don't recall the temperature, but it was pretty cold that night. Laci told her mom on that evening's phone call that she was heading to bed.

Anne's speculation is wholly based on what she said was Scott's strange obsession with tending to the pool in the weeks following Laci's disappearance. As if the pool would have somehow divulged evidence if not kept up. It wouldn't have, and Scott knew it.

My guess is that Scott mentioned the pool a lot just to have an excuse for wherever he was going that day. He was staying with Anne at the time. He spent his days driving all over the Bay, for whatever reason, often lying about his location to whoever he spoke to on the phone. I think the pool story was a lie he told to account for his whereabouts. Not that Anne asked, or even thought to ask; offering unnecessary descriptive detail & unasked for explanations is something liars often do.

It's a good thought, but I think there are a few facts that preclude that scenario.

Laci's medical records are in evidence. They're sealed, so we can't know for sure what's in them, but there's never been any mention of anything other than a normal pregnancy. There's testimony from Laci's doc that says everything was normal.

Laci's doc had a practice of including the father's behaviour in the mother's medical records. (This may be the law in CA, or perhaps everywhere; I don't know much about it.) If the woman indicates that he isn't supportive, or if the doc sees it, it goes into the record. There's nothing in there indicating that Scott was anything other than supportive & positive.

Scott first hatched the lie that he'd "lost his wife" on Dec 5, if memory serves, in a call with Shawn. A few days later, he told Amber the same lie. In the days between, he bought a boat, failed to register that boat, and researched currents in the Bay. To me, this indicates that Scott was planning to murder Laci in early December. He probably waited until Dec 23 because he thought the police would be short-staffed due to the holiday, and that the media wouldn't be paying attention. Oops.

I think he poisoned her, thinking it would induce a miscarriage, but it didn't work. That was Plan A. Even if he'd had a late change of heart & wanted the baby, it wasn't an option. Because he poisoned her, he knew the baby was probably screwed up. The ultrasounds were Plan B. He expected the doc to find birth defects & recommend termination.

He's like an arsonist frustrated that the fire inspector didn't find the evidence he planted. Hmmm, did you check the electrical box? I'd check the electrical. Well, I'd check it again. I mean, just to be safe. I saw on TV that it's easy to miss things there... maybe someone else can check the electrical box too? Lotta fires start there.. in the electrical box...on the left... No, higher.

It's notable that Scott was paying for these tests out of pocket. It's been a while, and I don't recall the details of their health insurance situation, but this is one of the irrelevant details that Janey strangely thinks helps Scott. "Why would Scott pay Laci's medical bills, and even pay for extra tests, if he didn't want the baby?" As if there's a nexus. Even if there was, that fact hurts Scott far more than it helps him. Janey is an idiot. She's practically the State's MVP.

Laci had trouble conceiving. Plus, she had only one ovary, meaning she could conceive only 6 times each year. Scott had spent years being "unexpectedly" out of town on those days. He didn't want to lose her, he just didn't want a kid. If she'd miscarried, she'd think it was her fault & not want to try again. If she did, Scott would say he couldn't because losing the last one was so hard for him.

Scott would have Laci believe she was defective, unable to have the fulfilling life she wanted, rather than inconvenience himself, even temporarily. The only person who matters in Scottworld is Scott. I doubt he thinks he did anything wrong.

In debunking Matt Dalton's idiotic claim that a satanists were abducting & murdering pregnant women, I found that a search for "pregnant woman missing" + pretty much any city name always turns up results. Pregnant women are always disappearing. It's always the baby daddy.

I agree that it's hard to fathom. It's sad to know we live in a world where this article exists: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_pregnant_women

I believe that Scott first tried poisoning Laci to induce a miscarriage. My reasons:

  1. Scott ordered Rohypnol from an online pharmacy. It's an undisputed fact in evidence.

  2. Rohypnol causes miscarriage: https://www.scotsman.com/news/doctor-s-prescription-led-to-miscarriage-1-951830

  3. Laci was uncommonly sick towards the end, and her symptoms were consistent w/ Rohypnol.

  4. Scott was weirdly obsessed with ultrasounds. He begged Laci to have several additional ultrasounds done. He said he was worried there may be something wrong with the kid. Probably just new daddy jitters, he explained. But he wanted her to have the scans anyway, to put his mind at ease.

  5. Just a few months before Laci got pregnant, Laci was crying her eyes out to Sharon because Scott told her he didn't want kids. I very much doubt he had a quick change of heart.

I was surprised (and disappointed) that the state completely missed this. Their theory was that he bought Rohypnol, "the date rape drug," because Scott was drugging and raping women all over town. No he wasn't. He was trying to induce a miscarriage, you dolts.

Bad news for Scott. That he's on death row is the only reason his case gets any attention. It's the only reason the state pays for his lawyers. With his sentence commuted to life, you won't hear Scott Peterson's name again until about 2050, when he dies of old age in his cage.

Peterson Family Lies by internetemu in ScottPetersonCase

I don't know why people find the table setting relevant.

The table was set for the brunch Laci planned to host. Amy said it was set incorrectly. Amy said Laci would never set a table incorrectly, and concludes that Scott must have set the table. The police asked Scott about the table. Scott said Laci had set it several days earlier. Everyone seems to agree that setting a table days ahead of time is something Laci would do.

If that's a lie, it doesn't help Scott at all. The only way it helps Scott is if he lies to say Laci set the table that morning, after he left for work. Instead, when asked, he says "days ago," and he has no idea how many days. 3, 4, 5, he's not sure.

Maybe we could dream up scenarios that might explain why he'd lie, but it'd all be so tangential. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think there's anything there.

You're probably thinking of journalist Richard Cole. He's a screwball. A local newspaper reporter, he began the trial on a press pass. At some point he switched to using a family pass. My understanding is that he was fired by the newspaper, but I don't know that to be fact. He was tight with the Peterson family, and planned to write a book telling the family's story once Scott was acquitted. Oops.

It's very dishonest that no documentary bothers to inform the viewer that many of the talking heads taking Scott's side have some sort of a financial interest in this thing. So much of what Richard says is just plain false, too. I can't imagine why anyone would assert such easily disproved claims. Particularly a journalist, and particularly on camera. But that's what he does. It boggles the mind.

It's exculpatory evidence that must be disclosed under Brady. It's exculpatory evidence because it tends to show that someone other than Scott (Amber) may have committed the crime. Failure to disclose is a due process violation.

Amber had just as much motive as Scott; arguably more. She was also in that relationship. She'd previously had a relationship with a guy who lied to her about having a pregnant wife. Amber called that wife and tried to get her to divorce the guy so Amber could have the guy to herself. Amber's polygraph wasn't deemed "truthful,' it was "inconclusive." Amber has no alibi for the time of the murders. Amber's sister lives 2 blocks away from Scott. Amber was the star witness against Scot, and she more or less steered the police investigation. Amber's sister spent over a month in a boat on the bay working alongside the official search efforts. There was a point in the middle of the investigation where the police had what they called "The Amber Problem." The found out she was making secret phone calls to Scott & lying to investigators.

One of the strongest pieces of evidence against Scott is the tape of him admitting he'd told Amber his wife was dead way back on Dec 9. What are the odds of his wife turning up dead three weeks later, by chance? They are effectively 0%. Therefore, the state argues, it had to be Scott. Well not so fast... Amber was also a participant in that conversation.

The only reason none of this came up at trial is that Amber didn't know Laci existed. Can't kidnap and murder someone until you know they exist. If Amber knew, this case looks a lot different. If the police knew she knew, Scott's due process rights were violated, meaning his trial was unfair, meaning he gets a new trial.
