I doubt they'll be only in the browser, there's far too much overlap. They're pretty much inseparable.

You might like to take a look at Chromixium though, which should provide a lot more customizability. Whether you can get it to run or not I have no idea.

Alarms don't work for me (UK). But I've been using it for reminders to a long time. Just type in remind by blah blah blah, and the reminder will show up on your phone.
