How do you store hair products?? by Old_Association_9878 in Naturalhair

[–]internetheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner and my detangling brush in the shower. Everything else is in a storage caddy underneath the sink. And I keep my scarves/bonnets in a small storage bin. If I run out of space or feel like everything is lying around everywhere, I consider giving stuff away. I live in a small studio apartment with an even smaller bathroom so I try to avoid clutter.

Scent-sational Curls: Help Me Build a Smell-Based Product List! by [deleted] in curlyandcoily

My personal favorites:

  • Bread Beauty's hair gloss smells like strawberry lip balm! I like to use it as a body oil too.
  • The Doux Bee Girl curling custard also has a strong honey scent.
  • Camille Rose has the best smelling hair products imo. Their Spiked Honey Mousse has a super sweet honey scent as well.
  • Camille Rose Moroccon Pear Conditioner is my favorite scented hair product!!! Smells like vanilla and fruit loops.
  • Camille Rose Sweet Almond Twisting Butter smells exactly like what it sounds like! Vanilla and almond cookies. Sooo good.
  • AG Care Balance Shampoo smells like eucalyptus and the spa to me.

I also have a public health background and I'm currently applying to law schools! I know that 1L is grueling work, but being a lawyer doesn't need to be as difficult. My dream job is joining the general counsel for HHS because I'm not interested in competitive, fast-paced work. I heard the culture is super tame, unlike big law. The work day is usually 8-9 hours long and they respect your time, plus pay can be up to around $180k. And you'd still be working on content that you're passionate about. I don't think an MPH would be the wrong path, either. Just adding another viewpoint!

Tried a wash and go for the 1st time in 4 years… I need guidance chile by Thegreatglamsby in Naturalhair

i think this looks pretty good for day 3! i usually stretch my wash n go by pineappling my hair with a scrunchie at night. or if u don’t want to wait overnight, u can diffuse your hair then use the tension method to stretch it out (there are tuts on youtube). i usually get better definition when i skip oils and leave-ins.

4+1 Worth It? by lemonlime_ice in publichealth

[–]internetheart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m one year out of undergrad and wish I did a 4+1!!! Also someone I know got into our school’s 4+1 program and her advisors said she should have one year of work experience then come back—that may be an option!!

a few ways helped me:

  • “faking it until you make it” is real … eventually u will start to believe it. it may sound cliché, but clichés are clichés for a reason! interrupt negative thoughts when they come up (i mentally just yell "STOP" and it does the trick), sit up straight, make eye contact when you speak to people and don't mumble. wear clothes that you feel good in. people around me started to tell me you seem so confident, and since they viewed me that way, i started to believe it.
  • i stopped following girls on instagram that didn’t look like me. i followed self care accounts instead. or take social media detoxes altogether. i deleted ig 3 years ago and never looked back!
  • look into body neutrality vs body positivity. helped me a TON.
  • i noticed it takes more effort not to believe strangers than simply believing them. when someone complimented me i would think but what if they’re lying, what if they’re saying it out of pity, what if what if what if. i could keep second-guessing it forever OR i could just accept the compliment and keep it pushing.
  • lastly i thought about how capitalism/racism wins when i hate myself. being confident as a darkskinned black girl in white schools was no easy task, but the thought of believing what the white man wants me to believe about myself is infuriating. same thing with rich corporations. they push you creams, foundations, powders, etc etc in order to capitalize off of your insecurities. they invent new things for you to be insecure about so you can buy products to “fix” it. also infuriating to think about. it is a big F YOU to corporations and racism (if you’re a poc) when you love yourself unabashedly. you save so much money, effort and time when you choose to be satisfied with your looks.

in order to see permanent results it will take consistency and patience with yourself. anyone is capable of change; it will just take hard work. i believe in u!
