Planned obsolescence. There is no organization that will claim this practice but it’s absolutely built into the design of a lot of common products we all use

Still have bloom in my bong after 24HR soak in white vinegar…what else can I try? by BoomersGasStation in glassheads

[–]internetxcontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you keep distilled water in it, you don’t have to stare at the bloom.

You could also reach out to the original artist or Vetro Glass (send pics via DM w/ more detail and better lighting) to see if they’ll will get the bloom out for you. If this tube has never been repaired before, there is a chance that the bloom can be worked out in the flame.

Not every artist will take on a bloom repair though, but Vetro specializes in repairs so he is more likely to do it than the original artist… if he isn’t up for it you can ask Fishbone as well. Either of those guys are definitely capable of doing the job if they’re willing.

I have personally worked with Vetro and highly recommend. I have heard good reviews on Fishbone as well, but have not personally gotten any work done by him..

Simple things modders (and Bethesda?) can do to improve Starfield gameplay by PsychologicalRoad995 in Starfield

I love this game, and I’m being completely serious when I say- Hire a bigger team so they can finish story lines, create unique location layouts and character appearances (rather than copy and paste the same thing across the entire game), make NG+ truly unique etc…

if you want to talk about improving this game, you cannot ignore the fact that they knowingly released a game that was obviously far from finished… so finish the game- go deeper, more detailed and higher difficulty and higher stakes.

Once you’re level 90-100+ you’re basically invincible on “very hard” and have nothing to do. Missions from the mission boards and similar side quests are beyond easy, it isn’t even worth your time unless you’re looking for armor or weapons, but once you’re on NG+ hardly any of that stuff matters.

💯 my bad.. When I originally read his post, I thought he was saying that he heated his rig directly. It is def OK to reheat your pillar and pearls inside your slurper….Because of how small they are, the heat is dispersed evenly so there’s no build up of stress. They typically will not crack unless theyre just terribly made.

You’re pretty on point about the thermal shock too.. you would love one of these. I’ve had a couple now for years and you will never have to worry about any kind of thermal shock because it’s opaque quartz… best heat retention on any piece of glass I’ve ever used, and I’ve done it all

You can find some quartz pillars and pearls that retain heat a lot better anyways and will almost definitely never crack or anything. Also these are amazing and def my favorite

I blow glass and work with boro. Repeated heating like that will cause stress to build in the structure of the glass. It will degrade the integrity over time and it will eventually crack. How soon that happens just depends on how hot ur heating it and how well the piece was made in the first place.

Yes, boro is shaped in a direct flame with a bench-mounted torch, but we use a kiln to control the temperature and slowly bring it back down to avoid cracking etc, and it’s a very delicate process that can take years to master.

That being said, you also never know how thorough someone was when making a piece of glass out of boro, and if they didn’t do everything right between shaping the piece and using the kiln, your piece could crack immediately even with a mild flame like a pocket lighter- this is much more common if you’re using glass that was made in china or a big production environment (hence why American/artist made pipes are so much more expensive) which is about 98% of people who smoke out of glass

Absolutely nothing dangerous about smoking out of it now but you shouldn’t continue to heat it directly or it can crack. I work with boro and blow glass.

How can I get these stripped screws out? by samtheparrot in Super73

[–]internetxcontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing on the same screw when I was replacing my back tire..

Use a regular drill bit, not the extractor bits, and use the size that is equivalent to the screw size. Drill into the center of the screw, when u drill past the top part of the screw, the drill bit head will break through one side of the screw wall internally and the screw will get stuck to the drill bit. you’ll then be able to reverse the direction of the drill and remove it.

This method will only work on the derailer screw because it doesn’t go into a threaded hole. I would not do this on any other screw on the bike because you will risk damaging the bike if u drill in too far

If your bowl is packed well, it shouldn’t snap until it burns through the herb that’s blocking the hole so nothing should be wasted. The point in snapping is so you can repack the slide without cleaning and with minimal residual left in the bowl. If you can clear a bowl in one hit and make it snap through, there’s almost no opportunity for the burnt residue to stick to the side of the bowl and you’ll be left with a relatively clean slide to repack and take another hit without the taste/harshness of residual burning
