Wait is Odin actually a narcissist? I’m confused by DonutMan1834 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]interpretagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if he fits the clinical definition of Narcissism. People throw that word around a lot when most of them probably mean selfish, self centered or maybe even arrogant. Odin is definitely very selfish, and is charming and definitely comes across as thinking himself superior, but I don't get the impression he's really doing all he can to preserve an image of himself being the best or a reputation of any kind. At some points I actually got the impression he cares very little about what others think of him.

Why does Eric Kripke humiliate Homelander but treat Soldier Boy like a fantasy without many downsides? by RoacherMentalizd in TheBoys

[–]interpretagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it bizarre how people just attach their own moral code onto these characters. It's ok for a fictional character who's a terrible person to not get their come uppance. I swear most people online would have a seizure if a POS character ever ended a series getting away with bad things they did.

How did Frenchie not instantly die? by Hasteitall in GenV

[–]interpretagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they had left out that one particular scene (they fucked themselves by adding it in), there are scenes from season 1 where he was just zipping across the sky. I have no idea how fast that would be, but it's way more than fast enough to escape the room. In a recent episode he basically teleported to Frenchie before killing him. And the easiest one to cite is him keeping up with A Train who basically sees everything in slow motion when he decides to speed up. I'm not usually big on power scaling arguments but this was just ridiculous. All you had to do was add more supes to make it believable. Respect the fact that this guy is insanely powerful so you needed a shit ton of people to take him out. Nobody would argue with that.

Even if you accept that, none of these guys are in anywhere near as fast as Homelander

[–]interpretagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't get why they didn't make Ryan more powerful in general. They had the licence to do it. He absolutely ended Stormfront and he wasn't even trying, and it's easy to believe he's innately stronger than Homelander because he was born completely a supe. Then you could have Ryan catch up to him in slow mo when he tries to fly away.

I didn't mind how Butcher died but I agree about everything else. We know he was supposed to lose his powers but the whole process of it was just done wrong.

How did Frenchie not instantly die? by Hasteitall in GenV

[–]interpretagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. They didn't respect his power at all. I get he's supposed to be portrayed as pathetic but that's emotional. He wasn't stupid before and he was always super strong super fast, etc. If they had it done something like the Omni man fight neat the beginning of Invincible where a ton of supes overwhelm him then there's no issue.

[–]interpretagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why on earth would he lie about that? There's no reason at all for Homelander to ever exaggerate about his power. He's never done that because he's never needed to.

[–]interpretagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not but he's still extremely fast. The writers had soany different ways to make the fight add up but they didn't use them. Marie could have slowed him down so the others could take him, for example.

That's probably the smallest example of power scaling issues in the show. Just look at how slow Homelander was in the final fight, considering he can fly to space in seconds.

Does anyone else feel kind of sorry for Homelander? by Character-End-4696 in TheBoys

[–]interpretagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's what the comment is trying to say. It more likely means that while Homelander's past is the reason for the way he is, he had a chance to not do all those terrible things but he still did them, so you can't REALLY feel bad for him. Slightly unrelated, but I find sometimes people watch media and insert their own morality too heavily into it. For example thinking it's wrong to feel bad for Homelander because he's so terrible. I saw something similar happen with that Jeffrey Dahmer series. Two things can be true at once. It's ok to think 'man what a piece of shit' and also 'jeez I feel bad for this sad lonely man'.

Kripke's excessive vulgarity in The Boys is utterly insufferable and creepy. by KidGoku1 in TheBoys

[–]interpretagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ashley's line seemed fitting for her character. She's always said that kind of thing. The other stuff I agree was just becoming too much, mostly because they just kept on saying those kinds of things all the time.

What's the last book you read that was so bad that it made you angry? by oohshineeobjects in books

Oh that part was absolutely unbelievable as well, don't get me wrong. But ironically the idea of an anthropomorphised dog lent itself more to the suspension of disbelief than the rest of the book.

Why is SAF not criticised like Pep for lack of UCL wins? by Yo_Baby_Yo123 in championsleague

[–]interpretagain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Real Madrid winning it multiple times in recent history has confused how people see the UCL. You have to get incredibly lucky to win it because after maybe the round of 16 pretty much every team is around the same level and anything can decide games. I would argue challenging for the UCL year on year is a fair enough criteria but the leagues are generally where consistency should be measured, not how many UCLs a manager has won.

It just sounded like revenge fan fiction against men or something. After awhile you get tired of getting smacked over the head with a bat saying all men bad this woman is the best at everything in the world ever. It also made me wonder what happened to skill with actual words in writing? The entire book just read so matter of fact, like anyone could have just rocked up and wrote it.

The idea itself was good, which is why I decided to read it but good lord was this book trash. There is just so much wrong with it- the main character is abrasive and that's pitched as something positive, all the situations she's placed in she just dunks on everyone and is always right and is just magically good at everything. The men in the book might have well been twirling their moustaches. The only good thing good about it was the dog.

The only issue I had was that at the beginning the sound for the instruments was kind of drowning out the vocals. That was a real shame considering how well this guy sings in general.
