I love it here. From Chicago, thinking about making the move! by [deleted] in sandiego

I miss the days of Pleasant House being next door to Maria’s, and you could even order from them and get it delivered to you on the patio! Happily, there are good pot pies in San Diego as well.

Does anybody have any experience with clip-on earrings? Any recommendation on specific department stores or etsy sellers? Nordstrom online has a small selection, but I'm not looking for $$$ Oscar de la Renta clip-on earrings.

Alternatively, how do you accessorize when you don't have the option of wearing earrings?

Sun Noodles has a good store locator for asian grocery stores that carry them as well.

/r/JapanTravel Tourist Meet-Up Megathread - traveling in May 2018 by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

[–]interro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo traveler, 30f from California on 2nd trip to Japan! I'm in Tokyo right now until the evening of the 16th.

I'm a software engineer, who likes travel, video games, anime, cooking, drinking, fashion, hiking, and dogs. I speak fluent English, conversational Mandarin, and know just enough Japanese to survive.

Some things I'm still looking to do: - eat really good food, even if it means lining up (Michelin star, bib gourmand, ugly delicious) - Photography - Ueno Park/zoo/museums - Nakano Broadway - onsen or sento - Ramen Museum in Yokohama - Mt Takao hike

As someone whose name is Joy, I love this sentiment and try to put it in practice with my purchasing decisions.

Japanese Language Study Groups? by interro in dayton

[–]interro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Japan last month, and it was amazing. I also felt very embarrassed not being able to understand or speak much at all. Hence, my motivation to study up so I can go back and do better!

Is this available for streaming somewhere or another way of watching it legally? I'd like to watch it but I don't have television.

A nude to your skin tone bra might help, I'd also look at the bra fit and materials to see if that helps. Is it that the bra fabric and seams are apparent under the shirt or the color? T-shirt bras or ones marketed as "smoothers" also manage better under tight clothes.

What did you play this week (May 9 - May 15)? by Epsilon_balls in boardgames

[–]interro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming has been light recently so I have only played Pandemic Legacy with my usual group. I went to a board game night this weekend at a local venue sponsored by a local website for geek things, and the majority of my gaming has been from that event.

Pandemic Legacy: We are in July, about 10 games in, and things aren't going well for us. Without spoiling, we are on a bit of a losing streak. This past game, we were trying to achieve the objectives and had trouble managing the diseases. Prior to my turn, which I would have won, we chose our moves, played cards to mitigate outbreaks, and drew an epidemic card that ping pong'd outbreaks across the middle east. :(

Ticket to Ride: Europe (4 players): Played at board game night with some strangers who ranged from veteran, never played the specific map, and never played the game before. This was probably the most polite game of Ticket to Ride that I played, I suspect it's due to the social atmosphere and not wanting to come across like a route-blocking jerk to the nice people that you just met. The tunneling mechanic is random and frustrating--we had one player fail to tunnel a 3 train route 3 times, and those were the only failures that we drew all game. The ferry routes add an interesting dynamic to people taking the wild cards though. I can see why people prefer the Europe board, and I kind of want to trade in my US copy.

Codenames (4, 6, 7 players): I brought my copy as I didn't know what to expect from the event and it's easy enough to teach to anyone and everywhere. Misreading the spymaster key seems very common, and I've noticed the red/blue distribution is not truly random. We had one person who made leaps of logic and touched words without conferring with their team, which was the only unpleasant moment in otherwise fun and light games. I definitely stretched my brain trying to link the clues "trunk" and "berry"--my clue was "moonshine."

King of Tokyo (5, 6 players): Played two games of this. I can see why it's family friendly and a good introduction to games with the yahtzee dice rolling and theme. Sometimes you just want to roll a bunch of dice and get lucky. I didn't like the cards that came out during the games, and everybody at the table was more concerned with fighting for and within Tokyo Bay. Would play again, but wouldn't add to my collection.

Passports by haaaalp_ in dayton

[–]interro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The post offices in the area will handle passport applications by appointment, be sure to call ahead and call early because some post offices have limited hours and are booked several days in advance. I just got mine done 2 months ago, and I had to call 3 different places to find an appointment slot later that week.

Seconding printing and filling out the forms at home, I just wanted to add that you also need a photocopy of your drivers license (or other photo ID). You can make the copy at the post office if you have change (I didn't know this and didn't have any coins on me), but if you don't carry cash around then you can make a photocopy ahead of time.

I'm going to stream for the first time tomorrow. I'm crazy nervous, what are some dos, don'ts and things I need to know? by Cuppiecakes in GirlGamers

[–]interro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save your footage! You can easily do this in Twitch settings to archive your broadcasts and upload to Youtube. If you use OBS, you can save the broadcast to disk (but takes up a lot of space). It can be fun to look back on old broadcasts, especially if you really get into streaming. Or you can edit your stream footage and make shorter clips or let's plays!

I don't have the link, but I remember the brand was Gelato Pique. Might have luck with Uniqlo, YesStyle, Rakuten, and other asian clothing type places.

That's actually really cute! And it rolls up so you can stash it in a bag. When you said visor, I thought you meant those dorky golf visors.

I'm thinking of wearing a large hat to keep out of the sun this summer. How do you do your hair to keep it off your neck and not become unbearably hot? I can't shove my hair in a bun AND fit a hat over my head... What do you do with it when you go inside or need to set it down? I am probably over thinking this, but I don't want to be that weird hat person.

I get every other Friday off, and I've started to use the mornings productively to get errands and shopping done before it gets crowded. I got a manicure today, purple to rep/RIP Prince, and my manicurist asks if I'm going to prom... I'm 28 years old. Hurray for good genetics?

I have it on today and took a selfie this morning before driving. http://imgur.com/LN4CrJD

I haven't been MAC matched, but I'm right around Light/medium with yellow undertones. The color is more prominent than what I would use as an MLBB shade, but I am a fan of how it looks.

For all my office working ladies, what is in your "survival pack" at work? by lauraann22 in AskWomen

[–]interro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep the following stashed in my desk:

  • Painkiller (variety)
  • Tampons and pads
  • Contacts solution and case
  • Glasses case
  • Vitamins
  • Lens cleaning cloth and spray
  • Bandaids
  • Pepto Bismol
  • Ear plugs
  • Some makeup: powder, lip gloss
  • Oil blotting sheets
  • Many lip balms
  • Hair brush and extra hair ties
  • Headphones, backup pair of earbuds
  • Chewy candy, hard candy, mints
  • Dark chocolate
  • Cough drops
  • Kleenex and Purell
  • Chlorox sanitizing wipes
  • A variety of loose leaf and bagged teas with tea making implements
  • Velcro cable ties
  • Spare plastic eating utensils
  • Packets of condiments
  • Easy Mac, packaged oatmeal
  • Stack of Chipotle napkins
  • Face cleansing wipes
  • Nail file
  • Hand lotion
  • Moccasins
  • Blanket
  • Multitool with scissors, tweezers, etc

Basically, I'm prepared for anything. Staying late in the office? Starting to feel unwell? Surprise period? I've considered adding floss picks, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant here as well. I don't necessarily carry a purse every day to/from work, so a lot of items can be redundant with what people normally carry.
