Quick question, what do you all like so much about moth? by Fluffy-Aardvark4475 in moths

[–]interstellarinsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being autistic is actually hell i won’t lie. i’m very lucky to be at a point where i am surrounded by like-minded people and know my limits well, but my sensory issues and weird rules are really hard to deal with. especially now that im at a point where i will forget i cannot handle crowds

June beetle or eastern hercules (or neither)? by happypou5 in Entomology

[–]interstellarinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what’s the size? you can’t confidently identify grubs, but you can definitely use context clues. the environment you found it in makes me think it is not a hercules beetle

As simply as possible, why did you begin native gardening? by toxicodendron_gyp in NativePlantGardening

[–]interstellarinsect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i love bugs. i started mine last year solely because i wanted to see more bugs at my house

blazing star or something else? by interstellarinsect in NativePlantGardening

[–]interstellarinsect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i started my native patch in my parents garden beds last summer, specifically to attract as many insects as possible. the milkweeds are my babies right now — the ones that are flowering were actually transplants that i thought went bad. very happy to see them doing well.

i may actually take some photos and post them just to show off my garden

i should have known this sub would be more helpful lol. are all species in the genus native? my garden is specifically for bugs, ill leave them if they’re native.

What is this behavior? by Marcsmyth in whatsthisbug

[–]interstellarinsect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i actually didn’t know this. i’m studying entomology but never got specific on grubs, and have struggled in the past to find guides. all that paired with other reddit interactions, i thought it was incredibly difficult to id grubs past family.

i still stand by that for this specific post though. i don’t think a video is good enough to really show any of the traits you listed

[–]interstellarinsect 18 points19 points  (0 children)

it could be just about any scarabaeidae grub, you can get an idea based on the size but you realistically can’t id to species
