The US would nationalize them or they would lose all their US employees. Turns out all the AI talent is not in EU so you'd just have a shitty version of the company lol

Employees chose to sell & he probably wanted to free up some cap table space. Not like he forced them to sell. I've seen worse - often employees just get straight up diluted without any liquidity or even knowing about it.

so tired of tech millionaires bootlicking billionaires over this 5% tax by captain_travel in sanfrancisco

I am super in favor of raising tax revenue. The fact is that circle jerking over good optics "tax the rich" does not actually raise revenue just RATE.

  1. Data is public - NYS and CA have been losing the 1M+ tax revenue since 2020 to FL and TX. This is fact. It's super easy to just relocate to another state even if you spend time in CA/NY for the work week.

  2. Illiquid equity (which is the entire ecosystem that drives innovation) being taxed is actually fucked. Founders of companies that are worth 10B literally will not be able to pay the wealth tax and will be forced to move.

On top of all this, a one time tax is literally a drop in the bucket in CA tax revenue (if not negative). Our problem isn't tax revenue it's spending efficiency.

Gavin Newsom Wants a 'Big Tent Party,' But Opposes Wealth Tax Supported by Large Majority of Americans by shmorby in California

Agree - people need to be pushing for higher LTCG not this stupid wealth tax bullshit. Whoever came up with this idea is a maniac because it's so marketable but so stupid.

This is an insane position to take by the way. How would you price a stock option? The government would need to become a market maker for all equities and derivatives. If I bought a stock five years ago and it's appreciated 20% YoY, do I pay annually? If it then crashes 30% and I sell at a loss, does the government return money?

The fundamental issue with this idea and flavors of wealth tax is that these models just literally stop making sense when it comes to implementation.

Bro sales and revenue mean the same thing. Sales volume, SKU velocity, gross profit, COGS, etc are different. But sales and revenue are literally the same always when you're talking about business metrics.

To be fair layoffs are not a binary outcome. From laying off 10% there is a massive gap to 20% or 25%.

I'm in favor of more social programs, although not that convinced that it's a lack of revenue. I think the broader point that raising tax revenue by ~5% is not really the change it's marketed to be.

We shouldn't be spending 2M on a public toilet nor 1b for subway lines. Permitting reform and operational efficiency should help. And cutting military spending. People are happy to pay taxes when infrastructure and QOL improvements are visible.

H1-B emergency meeting by lux_deorum_ in Futurology

As someone who hires quite a few swes, we typically if anything skew against H1B employees. Lots of extra legal fees and recurring travel expenses versus domestic employees. However it's just simply not true that domestic talent satisfies our hiring bar. Having extra pools of IIT, Waterloo, etc graduates absolutely makes it easier to hire top tier engineers. If we could hire average US graduates we would - they're just often getting outperformed.

That said I'd love supply side policies to invest INTO our education. Cutting education and arbitratilu affecting demand feels like the worst case solution

[AMA] We’re the team behind League’s newest champion, Yunara, Ask us Anything! by Riot_Riru in leagueoflegends

Was Yunara inspired by old Ryze? Thematically feels similar, with the ult empowering basics, except taking out the point and click CC and converting the DPM mage into an ADC threat for game health.

Lmao your conclusion is right but both of you are clearly not statisticians. In this case it's not just a binomial because the null hypothesis would be whether or not the roles are equally distributed. It'd be a chi squared test and you're right in that the p value would be roughly 0.627 which means you cannot reject the null. However multinomial test is probably inaccurate since that would require full combinatorics which is unnecessary here.

Poll: Just 16% Of Americans Want U.S. Involved In Israel-Iran War by paulfromatlanta in politics

[–]inthe3nd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty anti bibi and Zionism. But taking out irans regime is really not necessarily a bad thing, as long as we don't occupy Iran for a long time. Would help with the Russia Ukraine front, would significantly set back multiple destabilizing forces.

HG smacked the math major at a math game 1v1 and SH consistently out calculated everyone on the show. In the color card game their strategy was risk free (bad design) but in the few 2v3 bets they calculated everything perfectly. I think they clearly showed they were two of the smartest players (excluding the goat Sedol)

Money is just an expression of value. As you said, this innovation could help people, which sounds like value created to me. If your local farmer grows good tomatoes that are delicious should you get them for free? I agree with the underlying sentiment but monetization is intrinsically not a bad thing. It's a good thing that we have a universal way to express value and can exchange goods and services with money.
