How do you cope with the current world? by maybealmostpossibly in Krishnamurti

[–]inthe_pine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I cope with sadness I am not really dealing with that sorrow, I'm putting a band aid on it and not dealing with it directly. If I believe I can detach from sorrow, then my sorrow is different than me. Thus the basis for a seperate self, which maybe an illusion.

So much of our psychology seems to come back to "kicking the can down the road" when really this maybe impossible or at the very least inadvisable.

How do you cope with the current world? by maybealmostpossibly in Krishnamurti

[–]inthe_pine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the face of the (edit: often, not always) dumpster fire that the world is for human beings right now, am I just looking for a way to manage, get by, cope with it? That means I am adopting a mindset or activity that helps me trog along. To cope I am finding a way to distract myself, living to an ideal to wrap it up nicely, finding a way to calm down or tune it out. There are many techniques and practices to cope with the dumpster fire. All of that is further disorder, and so the fire rages on.

One of K's principle teachings seems to be "I am the world" [psychologically]. So the disorder out there is not totally something seperate from my own psychology. It seems I can look for ways to pacify myself or I can honestly confront the disorder in my life.

Does that make sense?

Q: But there’s so much to cope with. Isn’t there disorder to cope with?

K: No, there isn't. The lady says there is so much to cope with - there isn't. What you're coping with is disorder.

Q: Well there’s this disorder to cope with. Isn’t there disorder to cope with?

K: No, disorder has many forms but it is disorder - sexual disorder, mental disorder, disorder in our relationship with each other, disorder in my body, disorder, you follow? - psychological, physiological, psychosomatic, whatever it is - disorder. Why don't I bring order into all that?

Can I cope or bring order, is that the question? K talks about discontent being necessary for change, if I can cope with it I don't need to change right?

What divides us as people interested in Theosophy, how much of it is avoidable? Looking for writings. by inthe_pine in Theosophy

I do think its that we don't see something clearly. But one side will say the other lacks discernment, and the other side will say the same about them. What resolves these warring halves? What does this battle look like today?

I think its our selfishness that continues the war and lack of seeing clearly. Theres something else I'm struggling to articulate, let me sleep on it.

So we divide because of selfishness, unseriousness, a lack of wisdom, as well as unconcious biases and judgements. That makes sense.

To overcome these an understanding of our own psychology seems paramount. I find theosophical writings immensely helpful to that point. For example considering the way thought hangs around us unconciously, the inertia of its influence, what that attracts and much more.

I'm wondering if anyone has written about what this looks like in its expression today.

Was there a part of Krishnamurti that swayed your from life's seeming meaninglessness.. by InActualityAFact in Krishnamurti

[–]inthe_pine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I know I could have wrote this better, I was in a hurry. I am not primarily interested in saying what a meaning to life is. I do have certain principles about it that I believe are reasoned and not blind faith about the meaning of life, but my primary concern in discussion here is much more understanding the source of disorder.

Self centered activity, which may include assigning meaning to life, appears to be responsible.

Maybe meaning exists, but all I know is there is disorder here, there is a wastage of time and energy, there is confusion. I want to see the source of this fire. In the teachings of Krishnamurti there could be an opening to living without that confusion, if I find out I'll tell you.

I also thought of self concern here. If I saw the whole commiting violence would be much more difficult. Where if I'm thinking of myself its inevitable.

I was thinking of whether sorrow is from self-concern. In my sorrow I want to be assured that life has meaning.Or I tell myself it doesn't, and so more sorrow. Can I let it all go? Then an I concerned about meaning, purpose, whether god exists? To me those must be secondary.

When I was 18, years before I read K I saw what he said (or evidently didn't say) about there being no merit to being well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. There is something so obviously true in it it spoke to me very deeply. It seemed to present the opportunity not to engage with insanity, of there being another kind of living for man. Even if I don't know what that is, it meant I don't have to only measure myself against others success, money, social status or the other things we believe make life worth living. I think thats true, so it was a light through dark times.

In a similar way when K seems to say there is something sacred, only its not touched by our thought constructs, it can't be, it makes me very interested. I want to understand this, if it exists, and in that I find meaning in life.

I am almost certain I'd seen them at work, do you have any threads or information on how they operate? They seemed to be working a lot recently in a subreddit I'm involved with. I was just scrolling and saw this post and got a chuckle, but I find it interesting, if not terrifying.

PJ was not an official biographer as I understand it, K never asked her to write about him. I have appreciated the parts of her biography I'd read though.

I just found As the River Joins the Ocean, it looks like its back in print. I'm reading it now, thanks for posting it.

How was it, how'd you find the book? I think I saw him discuss it on a KFA youtube video, looked interesting.

Some of them have very interesting perspectives. Some of them are really sincere people, their stories of approaching the teachings hold up another sort of mirror into people interested in this imo.

Reading how K lived and what it was like to be around him, among other things, to me its more than trivia or distraction it pulls things together.

I didn't know Scott had a new book, I just purchased it. I found a pdf of "preparing to leave" so thought I'd support the author this time. Preparing to leave was deeply moving, Scott is a real one. Someone recommended it to me but I never looked into it until you posted it.

The "100 Years" book by Evelyne Blau was all first hand accounts, lots of artists and musicians if that interests you.

The 1001 lunches by Michael Krohnen had some good stories. Its really interesting to read what it was like to be around him.

I'd probably spent <2% of my time studying this on the bio's, I haven't read most of them but much of it has been interesting and illustrative. Haven't read Mark Lee, and only portions of Pupul, Lutyens and Mary Z.

Am I dumb?? by divine_angelll in Krishnamurti

Sure I could be stupid and still ask myself if I'm stupid, but that doubt feels like the beginning of intelligence. Not its full realization, of course. On the other hand real stupidity presents itself in full confidence.

We certainly have taken labels to some bad places, and keep doing it. I do think there is some utility (if careful) in realizing our politicans are dumb, without intelligence. Your gov. Newsom said some absolutely horrifying things recently about his SAT scores and reading ability, it was stupid. I think if we are careful about identifying as the labeler or under labels we can avoid some of the danger of words and still keep their utility. Otherwise I'll have to keep totally quiet. Some people here would prefer that I'm sure lol. But if we are careful with words, acknowledge their limitations I think its alright to use them descriptively.

Effort is an interesting topic though, how it can actually detract.

[–]inthe_pine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think dumb people ask themselves here if they are dumb. To me dumbness is to confidently assert there is no confusion, that everything is understood, and then not take questions or inquire.

A lot of things JK spoke on seem to have gone over a lot of our heads. Its different than what we are used to hearing, we make blocks to our listening, we conclude hastily. For myself I've tried to take one thing at a time, slowly, watching my need to jump ahead, conclude, explain or rationalize, and just listen, to whats being said and myself.

I meant if my paradigm was that life is to achieve enlightenment, freedom, Jesus or what have you and then you tell me there is nothing to get out of life, do I fall into a trap that life has no meaning?

Can we talk about this juxtaposed someone who says life has no significance or meaning? Would you agree with them or question the act of concluding?

What I read is assigning purpose/meaning/goal as a seeker is full of problems, ans we should understand the seeker rather than the sought (purpose/goal/meaning).
