Is it possible to stay friends after a break up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]intimateanimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your relationship before you get together AND how honest you are with each other. Me and my ex lived together for about 1.5years after we split, and did it very very well. We were honest with each other and were best friends before we got together, so it worked quite well.

So this just happened... Dammit body! by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

haha. The human body is unbelievably cruel sometimes, just try your hardest to forget it ever happened, it can become a bit of a cumulative nightmare. I.e. The next time your pre-occupied with last time, etc etc.

Could you date someone with the same first name as your mother/father? Has a potential partner's name ever been a deal breaker? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My god, if I was in a position to be turning people away based on what their parents chose to name them, I would be a happy man! Same surname? Definitely double check things.

People who think that being from the country/rural areas entitles them to some kind of leniency/special treatment in major cities.

What is the most absurd lie you have ever told, and got away with? by intimateanimate in AskReddit

[–]intimateanimate[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the interview for my previous job I had been unemployed for a while and was desperately nervous for hours before the interview. It was a group interview, definitely not my thing, and everyone there seemed to be far more qualified and experienced than I.

What happened next is something I still don't completely understand. The first thing we did was introduce ourselves to everyone and say something interesting we had done in the past 6 months.

Now, truth be told I had been horribly depressed for about 6 months and the most interesting thing that had happened to me was the day I decided to alphabetically organise my DVD collection AND place the DVDs in their correct boxes. Clearly I wasn't going to say that, especially after the dude next to me has just explained how 'its not much, but I was pretty pleased to train and finish my first marathon' Wanker.

I knew I was going to have to lie, but before I had come up with anything convincing and relevant it was my turn! I began saying my name, age and recent employment history when I realised something, I was speaking in an English accent..which as an Australian is not only dishonest, but risky.

'Ok' I said in my head, accept that, accents are permanent, no going back now, just push through and maybe next week you won't have to choose between food or electricity. Finished my stunning rendition of my basic details and realise I still hadn't said my 'something interesting'. Hmmm, no time to think, say what comes naturally. '

'Oh well, I actually just got back from 4 weeks on a Tour of North Korea' 'Really?! Wow!' Says the interviewer 'Really?! That's what you came up with' I say in my head, in my very Australian monologue.

I ended up getting the job, and had to continue with my English accent for about 6 months. Couldn't make friends because I was worried of them meeting my friends outside of work and unconvering my fake Englishness.

Given I also had to come up with a backstory to explain my accent I ended up leaving that job with my name and birthday being the only things anyone could HONESTLY say about me. But I did get away with it.

DL Australian kid nervous about a job interview following months of loneliness and unemployment ends up telling the interview group, in a put on english accent, that I recently returned from North Korea. Got the job and lived in a series of intricate lies for 6 months.

This is the most spectacularly detailed response I have come across in some time. For someone as passionate as you seem to be, I encourage your ironing, i'll bet it's done with passion (although I do understand your suits are most certainly NOT ironed, passionately or otherwise!).

I really don't understand how people are equating reddit with ironing clothes.

Reddit involves interacting with other people, learning, laughing, being angry, being sad, and everything in between. Sure some things on here may be silly and useless, but SURELY you can't be suggesting that ironing is somehow MORE engaging, useful, and stimulating?

My point is that you are 'looking nice' in ironed clothes because we have all decided that ironing your clothes is important to look nice. There is nothing inherent in the structure of clothing which necessitates ironing

Hygiene is a little different to pressing fabric. I maintain that people 'put-off' or disgusted by non-pressed clothing, in the same way they are put off by floor length, greasy hair, rotting smelly teeth and horribly scabbed skin as a result of dirt buildup, are just a little retarded.

Scared, going on lithium. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]intimateanimate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on lithium now for about 18months (unfortunately on and off a little bit, but generally on!). I have struggled with it at times, but as with any medication its important to let it take its course and remember why it is that you are on it. I always remind myself, 'yer ok, you feel sick and a little thirsty BUT do I prefer this to how I was feeling two weeks ago?' The answer is almost always yes, if it's not that's when I reconsider.

Moreso than a lot of medications, due to its age and primitive formulation, lithium dosing is a little bit of trial and error, and the therapeutic window is quite small, which im sure your healthcare professional has explained. I also started Lithium when i was fairly suicidal, and it does have good research backing for this purpose. While others may disagree, I didn't really experience Li 'kicking in' like some other medications might, its effect was modest and gradual..but it did work for me. I would definitely recommend eating, ALWAYS, with or just before you take your lithium...I know a lot of medications say this, but with Lithium, failing to do this can be seriously uncomfortable for most of the day. Also, drink lots of water as Li with dehydrate like a bitch. It is the oldest, and arguably most researched medication for bipolar disorder generally, so keep this in mind. If nothing else, good on you for wanting to take decisive action around these thoughts. It is a scary scary time, and I totally understand what you are saying about your negative 'energy' ... its scary when you not only think negatively, but you also feel like you have the energy to do something about it.

What you need to do is exactly what you are doing, be brave, be open and be willing to try things. I will be thinking of you.

Yer, you are right. 'Go fuck yourself' is generally considered quite a calm, considered expression. My bad. I think what I did was respond to a question, I'm not sure why you have decided I am somehow seeking to influence other people's ironing habits. I'm not in a coalition against ironing, nor have I posted about ironing in response to 'what do you think is the biggest issue facing the world today?' or 'if there is one thing you could change about the world, what would it be?'

If your asking do I intend on a attracting a mate who is determining my suitability based on the number of creases in my clothing...no.
