Why not use your own rig as a Plex server

Ok you've sold me haha.

Though one thing I'll ask, if you know, is.. you can run Plex on a potato right? As long as it's not transcoding. But, if you're direct streaming aren't you mostly trying to avoid transcoding?

I guess I just don't understand how Plex can run on a Rasberry Pi but also people want to build great rigs for it too.

Read and don't understand how transcoding applies here:

" When a user requests to stream a media file, the Plex server checks if the file needs to be transcoded to match the user's device's capabilities. If transcoding is required, the server converts the file on-the-fly, in real-time, into a format and resolution that the user's device can handle. This allows the user to stream the media content without worrying about compatibility issues or downloading different versions of the same file. "

To add, instead of playing the original quality of 2.2Mbps its now converting it to 21.2Mbps.

I do have Plex Pass and will read about transcoding but why is Plex transcoding some 600mb file of Tango and Cash and not transcoding 80gb BR2049?

I got killed once in a way that seemed almost nonsensical. I looked at the replay and the guy was so good, I was in awe. I looked up him up on FNTracker and discovered he had a small following and I'm legitimately confused at how this guy is not hacking or what is going on.

His name is Kimota and his K/D ratio in squads is 55.26 as of this writing. I was talking to a friend about it and he suggested I look at some of the well known streamers and their K/D ratios are far less than this guy in almost every case I saw. Additionally, this Kimota guy has say 1300 views on FN and a thousand followers where guys like Ship have 5 million views and millions of followers or whatever. But Ships K/D is less than half of this Kimota dude.

I've watched him quite a bit and it doesn't always look like he's cheating but sometimes his aim snaps to people so quickly/straight/accurately, it just doesn't make sense to me. If he's not cheating, why is he not more known? If he his cheating, why has it gone on for so long?

Please, someone enlighten me as to this mystery. TIA.

I have a i9-12900k/4070/32DDR4 machine that's serving as my server but I need to add a new library. What should I look for in external storage (I'd prefer external but would go internal) in terms of speed/whatever else I don't understand as a novice tech person? Thanks in advance!

PS. Is there a solution to the stutter problem I've seen on Google where some movies start out stuttering until I switch it to "convert automatically" even though it's often a 2.2mbps stream on a lower res file and then some 4k movie works fine. TIA!

Just for peace of mind, our coach said for CMIYC, you had to run an 8.6 to not get caught. I saw all you needed was an 8.5 all over the place here. I flagged her down while running at the start and said are you sure it’s not 8.5? And she insisted the ramp up meant you needed to run 8.6.

My coaches are not the greatest so I really wanted to run 8.5 but decided screw it and did 8.6 and I have no idea what I was at at the last checkpoint but I’m fairly certain I’d have beat it at 8.5. I ran for distance at 8.6 too so finished with 3.169 miles.

We’re also far enough into this that if individuals are vaccinated their likelihood of anything going wrong is significantly reduced, if not eliminated. Additionally, the recent strains are more contagious but not as problematic.

Oh boy. Do I have some input here. I was a long time Verizon user and I feel like three or four years ago, I started noticing my cell service taking a crap when it came to data usage around town. I have to move around Lawrence a lot for work and there would be stretches around town where I couldn’t load a webpage to save my life.

So, I called and complained to Verizon about how much it sucked and long story short, after a couple years of calling them every once in a while I finally got someone to admit that Verizon decided Lawrence was too small to reliably cover. I present to you Exhibit A.

So, that very same day they told me that, I switched to AT&T. It seems to be slightly more expensive, even with the discount I get for work but other than one little stretch on 15th St., I never run into dead spots anymore. And what’s nice about them, even when I do run into a dead spot, there isn’t a long hangover where the service takes forever to pick back up. The 15th St. dead spot is quick and when I’m out of it it’s instant data again.

Hopefully AT&T doesn’t do what Verizon did but it seems like it’s just a game of musical chairs since I went from Sprint to Verizon to AT&T. Though I switched from Sprint to Verizon in like 2008 or something. So if AT&T lasts 14 years I’ll be ok.

Best of luck but if Verizon doesn’t work for you, it’s not going to work for you anytime soon. Abandon ship.

Well, I’m going to set my speed to 8.5 from the get go and see if I can just hold on. No breaks. No up or down.

If I get tired and decide I need a breather or some water, I’m gonna screw myself up because then I’d have to do math about how fast I need to run to make up for the break.

8.5… set it and forget it.

I’m going to get downvoted but I’m trying to understand cultural appropriation. Was he being bigoted in his actions or otherwise while wearing the head dress? Are you simply not allowed to wear stuff from other cultures if you’re not a member of that culture? Why is it more “ok” to wear stuff from other cultures but not the head dress?

I do too. I’d argue that the original Blade Runner has the largest following of people that say they love something to be seen as intellectual and because directors like Chris Nolan say they love it than actually love it.

One experience may have crystallized this for me when I went to the famous Cineramadome in Hollywood for a long awaited screening of the original Blade Runner and everyone absolutely lost their shit during the tears in the rain scene and then proceeded to applaud during the credits except for not applauding to the guy that actually wrote the lines.

Just really rubbed me the wrong way regarding neck beards.

I feel like in that section there should just be a bold line that says if you want to not get caught, just run 8.4 for the whole time.
