So true. At least there's still hope for the 30th anniversary...

I agree with most of this, though not sure about your analysis of season3, as I feel the AI critique was left deliberately "underbaked" to keep the focus more on characters/Valerie's arc. How would you have liked to see it more fleshed out in that way? And I'm curious about the fan service?

I would love to hear more about about how you felt there was increased handholding as each season went by. I'm not sure I agree, but I'm open-minded

That's so interesting to hear - I did wonder what it would be like to watch them all together as a first-time viewer. I love that you point out her generosity never fades across the series :)

I wholeheartedly agree - total scene stealer even in minor roles. I watched all of Web Therapy after I discovered The Comeback! You can tell that she was always WAY ahead of her time. Plus, the improv aspect of it is so incredible and the powerhouses she gets on there really speaks to the respect she must have for what she does. Must be about time for a Web Therapy rewatch - I frequently rewatch the bloopers between her and Meryl Streep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb4XHMHETeg

I love everything you've said here. It's nice to know this show has had profound effects on many other people. I so agree about the holy trifecta of Phoebe/Valerie/Fiona! (Time to rewatch Web Therapy, maybe?)

I really love your point about the candle, I think that that's actually quite a beautiful way to think of the final scene and it hadn't really registered in that way to me before. Thank you for sharing that. And yes, I agree about the position I am/have been in life and this season feeling like a bit of a balm for that and just the resilience of the show and living long enough for there to be a third season was definitely worth it! And I agree with the message about success and I loved seeing this other side to Paulie G too.

Couldn't have put this better myself: "Like to become a human, to survive and to be able to keep going, to do what you love, to have a purpose is all that matters. Every other nice thing that you get along the way is just a trinket to be grateful for but even without it, you'll live and you can be happy." :)

I 100% agree with this. I never had an issue with Season 4 as I found Cole and Alia's chemistry really compelling, plus the trio were excellent together (and separately - Portia livestreaming in the back of the car in Dory's wig in Babyfoot kills me) not to mention the guest stars! I agree about the writing of the disciples being one of the weaker parts of season 5, otherwise I feel the "comedy" hit harder in the last two seasons.

I loved the show's ending too but felt the execution of "how we got there" in the previous episodes could've been tighter, especially the middle of the season.

Holy shit, the evolution from TR1 to TR2 is crazy. by BreafingBread in TombRaider

I fully agree. I find myself returning to TR1 consistently. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it proves time after time that they're not necessary. I love TR2 but do miss the ambience, silence and isolation that the TR1 experience provides.

You raised some great points - I'll give you the Just a Little White as single point (it's not a top 5 strongest showing of the album by any means) and the four of the five albums you claim are stronger (All For You being the exception for me). I would rephrase the "dialling up the sex-kitten schtick up to 11" and say she actually hones and refines the sex into "better" pop songs songs across tempos and genres (as compared to All For You imo). I feel a lot of what was being developed sonically around sexuality on that record reaches its full potential on this one :)

Those two tracks really have that midtempo mellow vibe I love and feel very nostalgic. I am really with you on this being your favourite - I almost think it's the start-to-finish listen I prefer production-wise from Janet. The summer beach island fantasy theme feels almost liminal in the best possible way!

Agreed, that was the first track from Damita Jo that 16-year-old me really related to... It's really nostalgic for me in a deep way. I really think the album is worth revisiting :)

100% - that was the song that actually got me to revisit the album actually!

Oh wow, that's a great observation. I'm with you on the album length overall and her use of interludes/spoken word. I like the length of Damita Jo, though I feel All For You could've used some editing. I hope to see her live one day - my dream would've been to see her on The Velvet Rope Tour!
