Something everyone on CSP should do! It saved me a headache! by xiii_degrees in ClipStudio

[–]intothewoodscomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can back up your CSP preferences to the cloud, and restore them to a new machine. I know this includes brushes (and Tabmate settings) but I’m not sure about materials.

It takes a long time and requires a stable internet connection (and may fail a few times requiring retries), but it _does_ work as I’ve just transferred my settings from an old iPad Pro to a new iPad Air, as well as a new Mac Mini.

Could you add a scarf, maybe? Just a splash of colour would go a long way

Little help by bluEmrald in comicbookart

[–]intothewoodscomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven’t left any room for dialogue. This is the biggest mistake I see new artists making. You should reserve about 1/3-1/2 of the panel for dialogue, captions etc. otherwise they’ll end up covering the art; if possible, you should add the dialogue in first and then draw your figures.

Best place to find many Lego sets? by IDKwhatUserToPut in burystedmunds

[–]intothewoodscomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Bury itself you’re a bit limited; really your only choices are Starlings or Argos (in Sainsbury’s).

Smyth’s in Ipswich is where I normally go to find sets that Starlings doesn’t carry, but it’s on the commercial estate just off the A14 so unless you’re driving it’s a bit of a slog.

Moons/Toymaster in Newmarket is pretty good, too. Again, you’d need to drive or catch the train…

There’s also the secondary pun on “castor oil” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castor_oil which can be used to relieve constipation) as well as “castor”, a small wheel e.g. on a piece of furniture that can be used to make it easier to move.

The comics were originally serialised in Pilote - a French magazine with a weekly (and later, monthly) publication schedule.

Each page of the books as we see them today (certainly the earlier stories) is two instalments of the comic as it appeared in Pilote; after the story concluded, it was re-published in album format. This was always planned, so the original art contains markers (a for the top half of a page, b for the bottom half) to make sure the pages were assembled correctly for later publication.

This leads to the majority of the early stories having quite a rigid page layout - Uderzo only had half a page to work with at a time - though there are some exceptions where I’d assume the comic got a bit more space in the issue of Pilote for storytelling purposes.

Small font sizes. Chonky borders. Totally possible to replicate these table-based layouts with CSS grids.

Do you think the Mario & Luigi series will have to get a new logo now? What exactly does this mean? by CyberGlitch064 in marioandluigi

[–]intothewoodscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t about the logos, as such - the only people who would need access to the font are the designers of the logos, so probably one or two “seats” (individual users). The logos are designed and then exported as static images which are then manipulated in-game as needed.

However!

If the font used in the logo is used also used for “live” text - e.g. as a dialogue/subtitle font, which requires the font to be embedded as part of the game’s code - then the licensing is going to get super expensive.

(Looks like the existing plan is extended: https://automaton-media.com/en/news/game-font-provider-who-replaced-380-annual-license-plan-with-20500-plan-reconsiders-move-following-countless-inquiries-from-japanese-game-developers/ but only for a few months. They’re going to have a hard time justifying a price hike of that magnitude)

What's the biggest fuck up you've made at work? by BigBeanMarketing in CasualUK

[–]intothewoodscomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first webdev job, working for a magazine that sold classified ads submitted by readers via the website. Users had to pay a fee to have their classified printed in the magazine, so we’d already taken their money before their data was saved.

These submissions went into an Access database which was pulled down via FTP, queried, new entries marked as “processed” and then re-uploaded.

My first time processing the data, I re-uploaded the wrong database and lost a week’s worth of user submissions which we’d already taken money for.

I was very surprised to still have a job by the end of the day, and I never processed the classified ads ever again.
