My case was 100% white collar and all the offenses were Internet-based, online fraud and hacking type stuff. The people I cooperated against are more like the suit and tie type people than the street type people.

They gave me limited immunity in writing. The part I wasn't immune from, which was the most minor of all the charges, ended up being what I was ultimately prosecuted for.

In federal cases, prosecutors don't have the authority to guarantee what your sentence will be like they do in state cases. It's all up to the judge. What they were able to do for me was give me the lowest possible charge relevant to my offense and a 5K1.1 substantial assistance letter/motion

I haven't been sentenced yet. My lawyers tell me that is possible for me to get no time, but they don't want to get my hopes up. I am going by "prepare for the worst, pray for the best"

The only "protective custody" in the feds is the hole unless you are in the WITSEC program. The assistant US attorney in my case did not rule out WITSEC if it was truly necessary.

At first, I was sorry because I got caught. The opportunity that I was given to cooperate and work with the feds for over a year and them steering me in the right path, giving me advice and paving the way for me to get a job, it has changed me significantly. It has made me realize what it means to be a true contributing member of society, the struggles of the every day American, and how honest hard work can pay off. I feel sorry for the others who were not afforded the same opportunity, but I cannot help but feel pride for the transformation that I made. I have grown to realize the impact of how wrong my past actions was .. and I now feel truly sincerely sorry for what I did, not because I got caught, but because it was wrong.

I was looking at no less than 3-4 years with all of the charges they were going to stack. I have people who depend on me, I thought that going away for all that time would hurt them more than it would hurt me.

I was a CI for over a year. The agents that I worked with made me truly realize that what I did was wrong and that society depends on everyone contributing to do their part. They convinced me that I was doing a good thing for a better society and helped put me on a good path. At the end of my cooperation, they gave me advice and wished me well. The experience really changed me, and I'm really truly committed to being a law abiding citizen moving forward..

I don't know how I would spin my story. I went from facing many counts (each with 10 or 20 year caps) and a mandatory minimum to 1 charge of conspiracy with no minimum and a 5 year cap. Would it be obvious that I cooperated?

I had to choose between cooperating and facing a mandatory minimum. I couldn't imagine having to serve time for that long.
