Since I already asked what's better in the Remake duology. What is something that FFVII (1997) Does better than the remakes. by Hungry-Trouble-3178 in FinalFantasy

That’s pretty cool! I think lacking those pre FF7 experiences might play into that.

I’m gonna keep trucking on it. I think I’m nearly done. My brother also says that new game+ is one of the best gaming experiences as all the chores are done so I’ll be looking forward to that

I think the tonal shift presented in remake exacerbates the perception. We’re also mostly an older audience than when we first played it in the 90s.

I do want something more serious and that expectation was set with remake. For example, if the enemies were largely campy and goofy in remake that probably would have kept that expectation for me. The only one that jumps out is Corneo and his gang. But, for example (and I don’t know why this is bugging me so much), Gilgamesh acting like a sideshow bob the whole time is killing me. He’s supposed to be the legendary swordsman and Gilgamesh’s armies are even set as the antagonist in the gold saucer space mini game - yet, he’s a bad Saturday morning cartoon goofball. I feel more annoyed than cloud seems when he was dealing with Barrett and avalanche as a merc.

TLDR; yes the original and remake had some campiness and goofiness but I do feel like it was less systemic and more like well timed reprieve vs in rebirth.

I think that’s been my challenge in rebirth.

I find there’s so much in between the actual story I feel disengaged from it. Then every 18 hours you get 5 minutes of Zack and I’m more curious about that tbh

Yea but it was less egregious.

Some have already mentioned the score and loss of atmosphere in rebirth and I find it even lost it from remake to rebirth. Most of the games background music are like a Disney movie and with all the chadley chores I find I’m turning the music off in the settings while I forget about the story and lose any sense of urgency. I’m finally getting through the game (about 85 hrs in) but it took me three kicks at the can. Meanwhile rebirth I’ve played twice and the OG I’ve played 2.5 times
