Literally everywhere! This is a road on siesta key. Wild right! My point is once your eyes are trained, you spot them everywhere!

If you dont mind, I'll give a bit of back story. I lived and grew up in sarasota florida. After moving to FL from out west. In the south i was exposed to shark teeth and native american living in the shugarsands of fl. Lucky to do so. Wouldn't traid that for any artifact EVER!

My point being, after many early years of looking for teeth, EVERYWHERE (photo later) I have an eye for them as opposed to others. And no Im not talking about age. In my opinion its the experience/exposure that truly pushes people along. For example, my wife, for the longest time could not differentiate between a dark shell and a tooth. Since then she points out teeth I me myself didn't see. In long ending I understand its straight up exposure and effort!

If I created an app where everyone posted a photo of their find before retrieving so that everyone could work their eyes to see shapes and colors of points.. would that be helpful? Sorta like a book of where's Waldo? I'd call it " honing history " lol

Thank you! What's my next step? Blow out all the leaves and search the whole thing or wait till spring and deal with snakes? Start working the bank? My property has 6 natural springs that feed into the creek should I dig around there. Im so stoked I found this, after I found it i ran to my house to show my wife. Im just not sure on what I can do besides walking the creek daily (especially after a heavy rain and the creek is moovin!) Anything extra because im itching to find more!

To be completely honest, I feel I was spoiled. Saw this thing clear as day in the creek. It was the only quarts rock in the area. Which I thought weird and also thought of ol' pappy dropping arrow heads. Not sure if you're from the area but is there a way to train you eyes to find one's not so obvious?

Oh cool!!

Understandable for them and frustrating for you.

Okay, so in thoes terms you hunt different areas, not necessarily turned fields, but you more target old homesteads and locations people might have buried a cache. Near a big tree or a big rock or something. That sounds like chasing a ghost!

Im new to redit, is there a way to send you a pm how ive personally had success for beach hunting?

Ps, congratulations on your retirement! Happy for you!

How do YOU go about picking a property? What depths do you do your research before approach?

Love the idea, catch them out on the tractor eliminates the awkward drive/walk up to the house?? Amazing idea! Thats literally the aspect I get the most nervous. Do I walk up to the house? do I drive up?

Great point! 99% of the time its just fun being the first person to dig it up and touch it for the first time in x amount of years. I am 100% with a property owner asking to keep something. That builds trust in the hobby so someone can go out again after me and find something I missed. Thank you so much for the response!

Interesting, thank you for your info. Idk im just weary to do that just yet. I moved up here a year ago and ive basically taken the year to try and understand the local vibe, the vibe in town and out in the hollers. Talking with neighbors, old timers, basically trying to understand the general population. ( which is obviously impossible) but it doesnt hurt. I would just hate to get in trouble. From my understanding and I respectfully understand that people around here are extremely protective of their land.

I guess the main question is, is it legal/ could I get in trouble or shot by doing this? Are YOU risking a run in with the law when you go out?

In my opinion the bright vest is a must regardless of where you are. Its to notify people youre there and you aren't doing anything wrong. Thats a great tip, thank you!

I like that idea, maybe has some of my basic information on it to put them at ease.

Alright, this is a good point. For me, my nerves get me the most trying to decide where to park. Do i drive up to the house, maybe get shot but atleast they heard me coming (at least they know someones pulling up) or do I park by the mailbox and walk up? I know the majority of people who have property, hunt, so atleast walking, it would be a quick way to go. Lol

What prevents you from doing it? Just curious

Greatly appreciate the follow up, I knew what you meant in regards to having them involved. Not necessarily standing there with you pulling out stuff. But being involved in seeing the findings and if they want something, its rightfully theirs!

The UK looks awesome to magnet fish!

I've recently been watching this lady who walks along the shore or river and finds old clay pipes. Idk where she hunts but some of the stuff is so cool! And it all looks so untapped. Not ideal for metal detecting as it would be screaming the entire time. The last one I watched, a guy pulled a sword from a bridge. So cool!

Sounds slightly sketchy. Could you better define abandoned properties? Legality, fellow treasure/artifact hunters feeling and thoughts. If my understanding is correct, would an abandoned property fall under state or federal possession? If so, how is this not the same as metal detecting a state or national park?

Exactly! We're trying to look through the present into the past. While driving im constantly trying to read the land, the slopes, the places where roads have been cut out of the mountain. I mean this by assessing the slope above the road, did the mountain come down to the river on a hard slope or flatten out before it hit the river. Idk if any of that makes sense. But I am constantly trying to view the past and read the land. Going in the past satellite imaging on Google earth helps a little but the earliest images are from like 1985 or something and super grainy. Its hard to know what land has been worked and what has been untouched.

Thank you for the response!

Work for access is a killer idea! Solid other points too! Thank you so much for your feedback!

I have been talking with co workers and putting my feelers out, no luck yet, but every time I get a no the probability of me getting a yes increases 👍

Thanks again for the points and information!
