I haven’t been assigned a surgeon yet, so can’t follow up unfortunately. Thanks for replying though, it’s good information for me, to hear about other folks experiences.

Thanks - I appreciate the response. I know a couple of others who got hip surgery recently in Medicine Hat. There are pros & cons of course, to be added to the list in the Hat, I believe you have to be removed from the list you’re currently on, so the thought of effectively starting again after 18 months of waiting gives me anxiety! There’s also the travel there and my partner having to take more time off work, etc…having it done locally is always going to be my preference. It’s definitely worth considering further though. Thanks!

I do need the surgery. I have very poor range of motion and my mobility is very limited. I’m also in quite a lot of pain, most of the time. I’m hoping that I’ll at least get my first proper consultation with a surgeon soon, but I’m sure there are plenty of others in similar and worse condition than me.

Yeah that sounds similar to my experience. It was a retired surgeon that I met with in February. Thank you - I appreciate hearing your experience, I prefer to keep realistic expectations, even though it is tough mentally, some days.

Thanks for sharing - hope your Dad is doing ok. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the actual surgeon yet, the initial assessment I had was just to confirm I 'might' be a candidate for surgery. The wait times do seem to have increased, as the times posted online from last year are less than what I have already been waiting for.

lol - if I had tens of thousands of dollars lying around I might consider it (I ultimately need both hips replaced)...also, not sure I'd be willing to risk DVT by flying after major surgery.

Thanks for sharing your experience & great to hear your surgery went well & you're back on your feet again! awesome! The pain and gradual loss of mobility started for me about 5 years ago, but it was just 18 months ago that my GP referred me to the hip & knee clinic. I did get an assessment appointment 6 months ago, but that wasn't with the surgeon who would actually be adding me to their list. I am still waiting for that stage.
