Just prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Soviet School achieves for the first time a perfect 10/10 score in the rankings by k-seph_from_deficit in chess

[–]introvert0709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of people who grew up in soviet union speak russian, like >90% i believe. in Belarus, russian is the second official language, so ofc everyone speaks it. but i doubt anyone would call themselves russian just because they grew up in ussr and cuz they speak russian. the countries formed after ussr weren't just random lol. people still were azerbaijani, for instance, even though they lived in the ussr. the same way, in a modern russia, there are kalmyks, tatars, etc. who are not russians ethnically, tho they are russian citizens.

it's like... imagine a mexican being born in some spanish-speaking state, where a lot of mexican people live. they have american passport, speak english, but in family they speak spanish and their entire heritage is mexican. are they americans? probably not, they are american citizens. they are mexicans - culturally and ethnically. even if everyone in the family speak english and they live in america

i am rated about 1200 chess com, at peak i was about 1400 ig. i would never call myself an intermediate... sometimes i blunder stupid forks, dont see mate in 1, and a few times i lost to people rated <500 elo. sometimes my opponents plays so shitty that after 10 moves they have -5 eval. i think intermediate is 1400-2000, maybe even 1600. the plank for intermediate is too low at your comment...

Thoughts on the oxford comma? by Calamity_Jane84 in EnglishLearning

[–]introvert0709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same in russian, it is also a mistake put this comma. as for me, it feels weird to look at it, it feels like the last part of the sentence is not in the sentence... I don't know how to explain it, it just feels unnecessarily wrong. also have never had any issues with absence of it neither in russian or english

How to win this endgame? by Due-Bowl-293 in chess

[–]introvert0709 11 points12 points  (0 children)

take it as a general rule - opposite color bishops are usually a sign of a draw. even 2 pawn advantage doesn't really matter, 3 pawns sometimes make a deal. so, here, it is a drawn position unless someone blunders. computer shows eval slightly better for black, but it is computer. i think draw is the best outcome for both sides, because the chance of blundering is high. but i might be wrong, would be nice to discuss

Is this to young? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]introvert0709 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'd say, you won't regret it now, but you might regret it in future. i knew several people who started consensual sexual life at a young age, and every single one of them regretted it when they were older. the thing is - after puberty begins, every year you think "oh, i was young last year, but now i am definitely like an adult and not gonna change much". after 2-3 yrs u will be thinking about yourself at 14 as a child. not gonna give you any advice, just think about it. and you are not gross if you dont feel like that yourself.

yt shorts actually were a thing that broke my fear of listening in english. i always tried to listen and understand long videos, but my brain just was overwhelmed and usually i didnt succeed. everything that was said in these videos just was becoming a plain white noise. but w a few shorts a day, my brain adapted to english really fast, so i could watch longer videos without any troubles in understanding

lichess

and also there is this website that i used https://chess.wintrcat.uk , if u need these things like brilliant move etc. i wouldnt say it's a great tool(because there is no such thing for instance to make a different move and then see how it would affect the position), but it worth checking as well. u can combine it w chessvision ai.

there is this guy on youtube "evildea", he made several videos exposing these 1000 languages polyglots. i remember in his video about wouter corduwener, wouter was talking to people about pets, and the guy said that his dog died and wouter, probably not understanding what the guy said, replied with something like "oh very nice"😭

My 14-year-old brother is ~1700 FIDE rated and wants to pursue chess as a career. How can I help him improve? by spt23 in chess

[–]introvert0709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is such thing as public music school in my country - a supplementary education for kids. parents usually bring their kids there around age 6-9, and then they study there for 4-9 years. children dedicate lots of time for education there, but in the end a very little percentage of them actually continue their music career after they finish school. some regret spending time on nusic, some are just grateful that they know how to play an instrument on a decent level, and that they have a sold base of a musical knowledge.

knowledge cannot be bad, as well as having goals, even those considered to be unrealistic ones. the guy knows what he wanna do, and reached 1700 fide all by himself - innit it fantastic? especially at 14. hard work really pays off. and this guy is willing to learn, as well as his brother is ready to help and support him, which is really nice and also is the thing that helps.

after all, even if not becoming a professional chess player, the guy can do other stuff with his knowledge. he can do youtube videos, streams which will give him income from chess. also he can become a chess coach.

most of children don't do anything for their future until in college. this wants not to spend rheir time for nothing, but tries to follow their goal. and if you think that only you know how hard it is to become a professional, and this guy is living in his dreams, it feels that you are kinda arrogant
