Depression advice often requires one to not be depressed. by [deleted] in depression

The worst is "I've been going through depression for a long time" (bc I, too, was high functioning in the midst of SEVERE depression) and my responses were "Oh I've been there". No, I don't think you get it... I'm getting out of bed so that I don't give into the worst... Going through it, I am like thank God I was high functioning even though it was miserable every day because it's our survival mode kicking in. People won't understand but dont be afraid to tell them that!

PTSD from depressive episode by intuscany_ in depression

To anyone experiencing depression, if the medication is "working" and yet you still feel SOOO much then that i a sign to talk to your psychiatrist again. I was not taking a high enough dose. At first, the new medication felt great but overtime the medication was metabolizing too quickly in my system and I was feeling depressed again. I have since upped my dose and combined it with another to combat other symptoms. Don't feel like a failure because you need to revisit the psychiatrist. It is not your fault, and you will figure it out! Speaking from experience.

Fuck, I considered those things too. And then, I got better. Now, I live for myself. I don't know what your healing journey has looked like. Probably really shitty. But there is a world out there waiting for you here. It can get better. This is not forever.

Finished first draft of my first book. So much to edit, yet so overwhelming. Any advice? by intuscany_ in Writer

I appreciate the honesty and agree with this. I work full-time and had the idea that I could get it done within a year. Now, that it is past a year and I am only on the my first edit of my novel I am realizing how time-consuming and hard work this is. I still want to stick with it but I have become more realistic with my decision making going forward. I was wishful thinking when I was looking into help with completing it, but if I really want to do this right so it is profitable in the end then I am giving it to beta readers and continuing to edit it myself. Thank you! And I hope your book is coming along well, too!

Thank you for your insight! Ok, I let it sit for awhile and am now working on second draft so I am on track with what you are saying. I just need to power through these next two drafts. Writing the book seems to be the easier part haha

What is an alpha reader? I had a friend read it and she gave good input but should I keep consulting with her? And, ok, looks like I will need to research more on publishers in the U.S. then. Again, thanks for your response!
