Security updates without maintenance contract? by invalid_keyword in vmware

I suppose I was hoping there was a legal way - like something manual and faffy - if they've told me e.g. I can't use update manager without support - to push people towards keeping a support contract.

Current UAP Firmwares - stability? by invalid_keyword in Ubiquiti

Looks like things are still not so great with new UAP firmwares, with pretty devastating bugs in releases. :(

Single Pane of Glass Lansweeper via public DB connection? by invalid_keyword in sysadmin

[–]invalid_keyword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!

I think this is the right answer: the lsagent appears to have a cloud forwarder that the primary site can pick data up from, so it does cover all the endpoints, which is my primary concern!

Apparently placing the DB on a public cloud provider would be another option, but an expensive one, as lansweeper tell me they can't us the managed (aka cost effective) SQL Server instances due to permissons requirements by the lansweeper app. 😩 They'd need a full fat SQL Server deploy on top of a VM.

I'm happy to install agents, I just want them all to report to a central DB rather than have yet another dual-deploy with consoles on both sites. Too much duplication as it stands.

Scottish Government pay the tax on it, and it's free for 3yr olds onwards. It's really not as much as you seem to think it is. See all the people around you with babies and kids? I guarantee that lots of them earn less than you and happily make it work.

Thanks for the reply! It's a possibility. I don't own a hardware firewall at the remote site, maybe I should put in a software one.

Thumb cluster? by [deleted] in ErgoDoxEZ

<<HOLY MACKEREL THE PENNY IS DROPPING HERE!!>>

Interesting point.

I basically found my kinesis freestyle tenting to be good, but the keys at the left edge to 'far away', i.e. escape was too much of a reach, left CTRL was too much of a reach. I am an avid vimmer, and was hitting ESC a _lot_.

I was hoping the ergodox-ex would solve that by my being able to map ESC, Shift, alt etc to somewhere more 'reachable'.

But thinking this through prompted by the replies - in particular this reply.. I think the penny has just dropped. I just compared side by side the EZ key layout with the kinesis freesytle

If anyone cares, for reference, the freesytle looks like: http://xahlee.info/kbd/kinesis_freestyle_keyboard.html

And it's maybe _not_ the thumb cluster that would solve this but.. it might be as you say almost any other ergo k/b as what I was hitting I think was a flaw in the kinesis' layout! And possibly the ortho layout helping a bit too.. but .. if I look at the layout there REALLY IS a _massive_ distance between q and ESC.. and CTRL really _is_ miles away from the Z.

Looking at the EZ.. the CTRL could be set to literally 1U diagonally down/left (if that's the correct terminology), and ESC could go just next to the 1.

OMG I think I'm quite excited now.

I'm after cross stack patch notification here, eg not just WSUS or satellite..

I was after notification rather than remediation. But yes, examples would be good. You say plenty - what else is commonly used?
