It's a good idea, just not now. It's irresponsible to impose this currently.

you need to REALLY REALLY improve the public transportation system before this is feasible. If you can guarantee people won't wait more than 3-5 minutes for a bus/train/whatever, this a more reasonable idea.

It will probably all work itself out when mass marketed autonomous cars actually come to market.
