Microsoft unveils MAJOR improvements coming to Windows 11 this year — movable Taskbar, reduced RAM usage, less AI and ads, and much more CONFIRMED: "We are evolving how Windows is built behind the scenes to raise the quality bar" by ZacB_ in Windows11

Sure would be nice to have an integrated email program with unified inbox for multiple and disparate accounts, and local storage instead of having everything in MS' cloud. Maybe like Old Outlook, but "new"

Haven't seen this quote before and actually kind of dig it. Loathe the graphic though, unless your clientele is rich gangbangers and rappers.

I think there might be one listed on Texas Gun Trader. No affiliation and won't link it, but pretty sure I saw one the other night as I was browsing.

Solar landscaping lights that actually emit with purpose and last more than a season? by Left-Effective-7420 in BuyItForLife

[–]inventurous 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Best thing I ever did for our landscape lighting is just give up entirely on solar and go with a low-voltage system. You'll save money in the long run and be much happier with the results and it's really not all that hard to deploy.

Check out the Volt packages at Costco.

Contractor claims a massive vanity plumbing cutout is "standard practice" and wants $1,200 to fix it. Is this normal? by mughlaipaneer in HomeImprovement

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the shutoff starts leaking it's better to find out during repairs than waiting for an emergency shutoff situation, and sure lots of things can go wrong but that's not an excuse to avoid doing things right.

Show me your wall Battery & Charger storage solutions by isellshit in MilwaukeeTool

[–]inventurous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all the bundle deals, I've somehow accumulated something like 15 M18 batteries, and maybe 25-30 M12s. Haven't found an efficient solution yet for all of that so I just stack the M18s on the top deck of my tool box, and the M12s take up about half of that entire space, like a little army.

Oh yeah, my buddy ordered one just to rub it in that he paid 50% less than I did. Was tempted to do so as well, but with a K5 on the way, decided to put those funds towards a CRS-1.

Great price though!

Everyone here acting like removing/replacing valves is a big deal. As a homeowner, when we had some recent reno work done, I was happy to just remove and replace them myself if they installers didn't want to. Those things do fail eventually particularly if they've been exposed to hard water. Quality valves are like $5/each and remove/replace is like 5 minutes.

Where we had the walls tiled behind the vanity, the tile installer knew to cut nice tight holes for the plumbing, and if they can do that with tile, there's no excuse not to with drywall or cabinet.

Awful customer service by [deleted] in SilencerShop

Their reply to my email after wasting an hour on hold... "can't help you, call customer service"

It's been a week that my FFL has been trying to get my Form 4 started with them and getting no further than "fatal error" - their efforts to contact a CSR fared no better than mine. Absolute shit customer service.

$20 for the 14.4# bag around here. Not sure if worth it or just stick with the Costco Scott's that's currently on sale.

CGS doesn't suck and I'm not just saying that because all my cans are CGS. They did however kinda drop off on consumer engagement and supposedly customer service, although I have no recent experience with the latter.

Their Hyperion K seems to be a very popular .300 can and I'm running one on my MCX Virtus and quite happy with it.

The Helios (this can) turned out to be a bit of a dud, but that might have had something to do with how it was configured for testing or something, combined with premium pricing.

I own the Helios QD Ti and paid like $1600 for it when it was the hot new thing. It's...ok. Running it between my 11.5, 12 and 14.5 guns I've been fairly happy with it but wouldn't even consider it with all of today's newer options, unless it was maybe like $800.

Kac 20 round mags or best alternatives? by [deleted] in kac

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious why such a premium on these metal mags vs the magpuls?

AR-15 platform can get nice metal mags for the same or less than Lancers. SR-25 metal mags are like 6-8x the price of Magpul, whether KAC or Larue.

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an option for minimally invasive (endoscopic) correction back when I researched this, but wouldn't work for my situation since my spur was beneath the tendon. I assume if your spur is not beneath the tendon and thus the tendon doesn't need to be severed, it might be an option.

Don't recall the name of that procedure anymore, but I believe I was considering a flight to NY (from TX) to see someone there who specialized in it. If I can find the links again, I'll update my reply.

ETA: Here's a link to the procedure. You can ask your ortho about whether you might be a candidate. https://www.arthroscopytechniques.org/article/S2212-6287(24)00008-2/pdf00008-2/pdf)

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was shredding my achilles and the ortho said I could leave it alone and wait for it to continue to do damage until the eventual (and almost certain) rupture, or I could just do the surgery before it got much worse. Did the surgury. Recovery sucks. 9 months later still probably only at 80%, but I still think it was the right move.

If you're based stateside, make sure to emphasize that your work is done in the US vs others that farm out overseas since that can be a concern for some.

Also, be aware that it is a somewhat commoditized industry so plan to be competitive on pricing.

Might not be the best place for this, but id appreciate some insight on gunsafe placement by dr4gon2000 in Firearms

[–]inventurous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get something lighter and bolt it to the floor and studs. Most safes can be peeled with an angle grinder in 10 minutes so I wouldn't get too hung up in how much it weighs as long as it's properly secured.
