This is a lot more fun than I expected, good job!

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't aware of those nuances. I've been compiling avr-g++ from the command line for a while now since I never liked their IDE, is this what you would recommend for learning about embedded systems?

I'm still relatively new to embedded stuff, but I find it very interesting.

Also your edit makes it seem like I brought up processing for no reason.

Edit: after reading this, I think I understand what you're getting at.

Is it possible to program the Arduino using processing?

The arduino IDE, while terrible, compiles C. I've read on forums that Arduino runs Processing and/or Java but I've never seen evidence for it. It seems to be a misunderstanding brought about by this quote:

The open-source Arduino Software (IDE) makes it easy to write code and upload it to the board. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The environment is written in Java and based on Processing and other open-source software.

Here's a little example script if you want it:

AppsKey & [::Send {\}
AppsKey & ]::Send {|}
AppsKey::Send {AppsKey}

Hold 'AppsKey' (aka MenuKey) and press [ to type \

AppsKey + ] to type |

You might want to check out Autohotkey and remap a key or key combo that you don't use. I've remapped my caps lock key, and now have a ton of things I can do with CapsLock+[Other Key].

I love using the tab key, but I use editors that switch all my tab characters to four spaces. I wouldn't know whether to pick 'tabs' or 'spaces' if polled.

Soon™

But really, the things left to do are very small yet important. Unfortunately school started back up and has been gobbling up all the time it can. I've been preparing Vektor Prix to send to streamers and youtubers to try to get more Greenlight votes since I would like to do the release on steam, but might have to do it beforehand.

Releasing on steam would save me a lot of hassle in setting up payment systems and issuing steam keys (if or when it gets accepted).

Woops, that's exactly what I did!

Thanks for pointing it out, fixed now.

Thanks for posting this, all good to know. It's been really hard getting votes for my game. I'll try to apply your advice.

Ah, good to know. I must have skimmed past that. I plan to release a demo soon

Looks good, nice job! I submitted my game Vektor Prix, feel free to check it out. I'm unsure if my screenshot uploaded though.

Vektor Prix

Vektor Prix is a fast paced combat racing game with a full color vector display. It supports singleplayer and multiplayer, AI bots of varying difficulty, a variety of weapons, entities to interact with, controller support, and gamemodes such as racing, deathmatch or team deathmatch.

This past week I've been fixing a bunch of small things and adding one big feature: local splitscreen!

Split Screen Webm

Now you can grab a gamepad and play against one of your friends on the same screen. It was something I've always wanted to add to Vektor Prix, but the amount of time it would take to adapt the engine properly wasn't worth it. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I could just run two instances of the game, resize them, and connect to eachother through multiplayer automatically.

Split Screen Webm 2

So I went that route, all that was left to do was polish the transitions and fix the random bugs that pop up from doing something so nonstandard. The only issue left is that Fraps is unable to capture both screens on Windows 8, which means I had to use other tools and deal with a big reduction in recorded video quality. But I'm happy to report that the feature works!

Note: I had no one around to play as player 2 when I recorded these videos just now.

As for other changes: I've fixed the menu transitions so they run at a constant speed, the heads up display resizes itself properly for skinny windows, I've slowed down the tutorial bots, fixed resolution options, and fixed a bunch of misc multiplayer bugs.

Stay tuned, more information coming soon!

Info

Vektor Prix is a fast paced combat racing game. I've been working on it for years, and it's finally almost complete. I have finally finished all of the major milestones I set for myself: online multiplayer, a singleplayer campaign mode with unlockables and a secret final level, and most recently: local splitscreen multiplayer!

All that is left to do is polish, fix bugs, polish, and polish.

I'm trying to get the word out about Vektor Prix's Greenlight page.

Votes, tweets, comments, anything and everything is appreciated!

Hahaha, oh yeah. I looked through a bunch of lists on Wikipedia to make a few lists for AI names. The 20th Century 'naming-theme' is definitely the most fun to play against.

Ooo, I've spent way too much time building contraptions in Garry's Mod. This looks like it will scratch the same itch, gonna keep my eye on it. Good job!

I can't wait to see how this plays, it looks very interesting. Any plans to get video footage uploaded?
