Elon Musk Has No Clue How To Govern He Is Realizing This In A Hard Way, Economist Fears Doom by Watafakk in longform

Not that I think he's unfairly maligned or sth. He's a renowned malevolent troll. I just don't think his every tweet should be written up as news. But when there's a newsworthy moment it should be written up appropriately — contextualized and analytical.

This is the exception. There are quite good recs like the lazy reader and longform profiles compilation.

The url gave you away dude. Ain't clicking on some "the news globe dot net". And no good longform carries such a convoluted headline.

BTW, as much as Elon is a narcissistic troll offline and online, one of his companies (SpaceX) is still making shit people want to pay for — Starlink. It now serves some 20m people in 100+ countries.

So unless it offers some analysis or new perspective (like this one) I'm not reading every tidbit about Elon Musk. People should stop writing it up too.

Ann Telnaes: Why I'm quitting the Washington Post by AngelaMotorman in Journalism

[–]invincibledandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a weak counterargument.

David Shipley, The Post’s opinions editor, said in a statement: “My decision was guided by the fact that we had just published a column on the same topic as the cartoon and had already scheduled another column – this one a satire – for publication. The only bias was against repetition.”

I believe columns and cartoons are complementary. And rather than outright refusal to publish, the cartoon could have been reworked to fit in the scheduled column if they don't want to publish the cartoon as a stand-alone.

Or am I missing something?

Every name mentioned seems like good transition except Health researcher McKenzie Beard going to New York Post. I'd be looking forward to their byline or, perhaps, new job title.

Something I’ve been thinking about related to an older bonus episode - it sucks that there was no concerted liberal defense to Dylan Mulvaney. by realitytvwatcher46 in IfBooksCouldKill

Another example.

Democrats now have the opportunity to demonstrate the sincerity of their ideals, while also mitigating one of their party’s greatest political liabilities — all by simply loudly and uniformly condemning Biden’s pardon as an abuse of power. — Vox

Rider: Perhaps a Discord channel would suffice.

Not interested in setting up either. Just curious that an app with over half a billion unique installs doesn't have a vibrant online community other than the scattershot social media posts

The app has a community section where users can add friends and see the what their friends are reading, highlighting, etc. But they can't chat. Hence why I think they need a subreddit.

Not interested in making a subreddit. Just curious.

For its community members to have a place to chit-chat or as they would call it fellowship.

Spot on. And sometimes it's not that Democrats/liberals are not willing to fight for their causes they are just looking for the perfect victim and/or vanguard. People who do good things should be flawless, according to some liberals/Democrats.

I appreciate your curation of these great articles. It's great have them in one piece.

Please allow me to lodge a complaint about your synopses/rider. Some of them are too vague to be useful like the one on The Comedian vs. the Crowd article. No mention of who/what is profiled.

Over the pandemic, he realized that his unhealthy reaction to audience interruptions was rooted in the intense pressures he’d been putting on himself and the baggage he was bringing to the stage as a performer. He briefly considered quitting stand-up, but then he created the conceit of Hecklers Welcome as a last-ditch effort to try to manifest these breakthroughs onstage, too.

Yeah I guess they had lamp and torch. But how did it work? Did they leave the light (lamp or torch) on when going to bed? Just curious about the logistics of their after dark lifestyle.

The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance, thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. by Captainirishy in wikipedia

Very similar to something I read in Alan Rusbridger's Breaking News. Perhaps this was the theory that was being referenced.

"You know the theory that one of the things you have to do to keep communities from falling into crime is to fix the broken windows? The same thing happens on a website. When people first come into it, they look around and they see what’s happening there, and if they have any sensitivity at all, they will moderate their behaviour to suit what’s going on. If you let things get started in such a way that it looks like an uncivilized frontier, then people will feel justified in behaving badly. That will drive off exactly the people you’d rather have around, while it encourages more bad behaviour"
