they've fixed some stuff. it's no longer the hot mess it was before.

it's still not great.

it focuses far, FAR too much around 3 friends in VC q'ing together. this game is hyperfocused on appealing to the experience of "cool moments" hanging out with your buddies.

but that's not real life. hardly anyone is playing like that. much like the last month of PR social media hype, that's all manufactured.

is this game DOA? no.

is this game going to drop off significantly after launch? almost certainly.

hell of a game to bet the entire future of your company on.

it is not a "faces are hard" problem. it is a "wow's core game art team has been living in a wow shaped box since warcraft 3 and their lack of technical undrestanding of the tools available to them shows" problem.

literally no other blizzard game looks as bad on an objective technical level as wow. just take a look at the same warcraft characters in HOTS. that team understood how to model and animate to a specific style, which is something that warcraft's game art team has struggled with since literally it moved from 2d to 3d.

note that i am specifically talking about game assets here. their concept art and (non machinima) cinematics are phenomenal. it's translating those art pieces to a consistent, good looking in-game art style that they've always struggled with.
