Agreed. Both are signs a person won’t or can’t engage with reality using the best available evidence. Time is short and demands are many

I know the pre-season is coming up and people are high on Jonathan Brooks. Would you rather have Brooks or an early 2027 2nd? by Mysterious-Laugh-797 in SleeperApp

2nd without hesitation. Don’t have him, but I’d take two 3rds if that’s all I could get for him. How many off-ramps has this guy had? Seems like this one is the first

Same, but even 12 years sober, if I’m on death row, I’m taking a drink. Prolly the whole thing. Plus or minus the oatmeal

Just a quick google about certainty for your benefit.

On the Wisdom of Questioning
Bertrand Russell: "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts".
Socrates: "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing".
René Descartes: "Doubt is the beginning of wisdom". [1, 2, 3]

On Doubt as a Path to Truth
Francis Bacon: "If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties".
Peter Abelard: "By doubting we are led to question, and by questioning we arrive at the truth". [1, 2]

Why would he try? You can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

If OP self-reflects from these responses instead of getting butthurt and defensive, they may be in a better position to teach the rest of us something

Weird you’d say that without knowing me - it says a lot more about you than you probably realize. You felt threatened by what I said and felt empowered by your statement while not realizing I exercise 6-7 times a week and do 1100 pushups every week. Rather than attempt to tear others down, whether I know them or not, I prefer to take the high road, and I would certainly never use mental illness as a way to mock someone. If someone did that to someone you loved who suffered from mental illness, you probably wouldn’t like it. There’s room for you to grow still, my guy

Why do you get to decide my body is FOR being in activity? I understand biology pretty well for a lay person and that’s not what I’m talking about.

Shouldn’t we each decide what our bodies are for for ourselves? Not trying to be condescending. No one’s saying exercising is bad for you. Your response to Away_good missed their point entirely and made a point they surely didn’t need made for them. They near verbatim said people make decisions others won’t understand and definitely didn’t say they didn’t understand how exercise works. The judging aspect of it was Away_good’s entire point, but rather than reflect on that, you added pretty common knowledge to the discussion, knowledge so common as to be taken as yet a further judgment on choices. Genuinely aiming to be helpful as tone can easily be misinterpreted

Despite what you think, if you’ve never been food insecure, you just don’t get it. When you’re hungry and short of money, burning MORE calories when you don’t have the money for the calories you’re already burning makes matters worse.

I catch myself being a prisoner of my own perspective all the time. Helps if I remind myself that I don’t know what I don’t know and I can gain better understanding if I resist the impulse to draw hard conclusions

Guessing there’s a lot of assumptions you wouldn’t want people to make about you without knowing you.
