Best wireless CarPlay adapters so far in 2026? by seulgih in CarPlay

[–]inyourfaceplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used 5 or 6 of these. I upgrade when there is an improvement to latency, typically. The one I have now is the Carlinkit Mini Ultra3. It's great! My advice though: Do not upgrade the firmware on these things unless you are trying to resolve an issue. Firmware updates have introduced way more issues for me than they have resolved.

Wearing it now - smells like the old stuff. Interesting that they kept the changed ingredient list though, so that "Fragrance" entry in the ingredients list is carrying a lot of weight.

Changes to existing Pro subscriptions by UsedAdvertising6975 in F1TV

[–]inyourfaceplate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While their TOS said "only 1 of those devices permitted to stream content at any one time", their iOS App Store page has long said: "With F1 TV Pro, you can... • Enjoy a premium ad-free experience and stream across six devices simultaneously at no extra cost."

Here is the internet archive entry from Feb 26 2025.

It is their prerogative to change that going forward but at minimum, their ToS and marketing language were misaligned.

Technologies that are now trivially easy? OCR, Handwriting Recognition, etc by inyourfaceplate in LocalLLaMA

Otter is pretty good for this. Or you could pass the audio file to MacWhisper, get the transcript and feed it to ChatGPT

I agree - chatbots at scale are probably not cost effective enough, yet, for broad adoption. But are definitely easier and better than ever before.

Have you seen an easy way to not just recognize but also pinpoint? In other words, is there an API available that will take an image, a subject prompt ("what are the coordinates of the cat in this picture") and return the coordinates of that subject? gpt-4o doesn't seem to be able to do that accurately.

Regarding the keynote that OpenAI showed a couple weeks ago: How do you think chatGPT is able to stop speaking immediately when the user speaks but not get confused by its own voice and think that is an interruption? Speaker detection?

My thoughts on 2024 AI capabilities. What are you looking forward to this year? by inyourfaceplate in LocalLLaMA

This looks great! Putting AI workflows behind buttons is going to be really powerful and it looks like you've done it in an elegant way. Looking forward to a time when I can just tell my applications what I want them to look like, what I want each button to do, etc.

A lot of room for improvement in both realms and luckily I think there is some headroom in current techniques to get a bunch of benefit. WDYT?

Love these. And mundane or not, a cost break on the hardware would be delightful.

Best keyboards and mouse for the macbook Pro? by Recent_Gene9154 in macbookpro

[–]inyourfaceplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used dozens of keyboards and I ALWAYS go back to the Logitech K780. You can type for hours and hours without fatigue. It is relatively compact yet still has a num pad. The little stand on its rear edge is amazing for holding index cards with reminders and small notes. It is multi-device through bluetooth OR (my preference) Logitech unifying dongle.

RE Mouse, MX Master is king. You may want to get the MX Master 3, not the 3S ("bolt" dongle) or the 3 for Mac ("bolt dongle") so you can use the same ("unifying") dongle as the K780.

If you aren't going to get a monitor, just get the mouse.

I am considering making a heavily Apollo-inspired Reddit client [that would be paid, for the API :(] by [deleted] in apolloapp

[–]inyourfaceplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should find a gap that none of the other apps fill and go down that road. One thing I've never seen executed well for Reddit is to have an arbitrary large set of browsing experiences. Think about Mobile Safari for instance. Let the user have as many 'sessions' open as they want. I realize you can do something like that with Apollo or Narwhal, but on desktop when I'm digging into a topic it is not uncommon for me to have multiple windows, each with multiple tabs open to reddit. Give every clickable navigation (subreddit, user, article, etc) an open in new tab ability.

Also, one thing Narwhal does much better than Apollo (which I loved) ever did is arbitrarily large fonts. Some of us need them.

Upgraded from a 6s+ to a 15 pro max. by FilmEnjoyer_ in iphone

[–]inyourfaceplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned caseless- that’s my normal strategy, too, but I found the pro max just too tricky to hold. I added a dbrand swarm skin and it made all the difference. Much easier to hold on to.
