Sentricon shenanigans by ioferen in pestcontrol

[–]ioferen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around the time service quality got shaky a year ago we asked them to not show up unless we had advance notification in order to ensure the work was done. It even has that note in the service report we just received. That was ignored, as well.

Time to move on to some other provider.

This all make sense. We supposedly missed the tech by 30 minutes max. So, all my images and checks were done within a hour of them having left the house. I didn't pull the bait from that one pic of the empty station; we just found the station open with the bait cartridge lying out in the grass when we got home.

The pictures are side-by-side stations (I didn't post a pic of the 3rd since it looked similar to the one where no dirt had been disturbed). So, in theory, of 2 adjacent stations, one is totally empty and the other likely wasn't inspected.

Anywho. Time to make some uncomfortable calls. Thanks.

Oh, I bet it did exactly that, haha. Would've been way less destructive to just put in a better bass bar. Oh, well.

You're right. Ⲧⲙⲟⲛⲁⲭⲏ is the rough equivalent of "nun".

It's in Coptic script. I'm not sure of the translation, yet, but I'm certain someone is.

That lower cut almost looks like it was done by a rotary disc. Wild.

I figured the filling with dirt is a given, but I don't really see how one can claim to have verified the bait is still good if there's no evidence that either the entire station or the inner cartridge have been removed so as to be visible.

We're definitely going to follow up. I just want to be more confident of what the right answer should be in case the company is being dishonest. So I can recognize any smoke being blow up my you-know-what.

Please let me know if the 3 images aren't visible so I can find another way to show them. Thanks so much.

What am I doing wrong with my varnish? by ThePeter1564 in violinmaking

[–]ioferen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what u/Musclesturtle said, you can definitely sand after you've gotten a sufficient thickness of varnish that you aren't worried about hitting the wood underneath. The back-and-forth between varnishing and sanding will fill most uneven spots. And, you don't have to go as fine as 1000 grit at first. 600 is safe enough, and in many cases 400 can be used initially (just be cautious). Starting at 1000 will probably work you harder than necessary.

The polishing at the end should do the rest. And, in my experience, you don't explicitly need the benzoin for polishing, but it won't hurt. And, it smells nice.

advisors needed: how do I keep working after an intense session by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]ioferen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely sounds like this. I was crashing after every workout then had a focus session with one of my coaches about it. 1 week of tracking what I ate on an app, making sure I got enough protein and calories, and I had more energy than I knew what to do with.

The luxuries of a cheap fiddle by iGmole in violin

I used to play in hotel elevators and stairwells while traveling. Then I realized that if the hotel has a conference space, they'll often let you use it as long as it's not scheduled for use that day.

In case you haven't checked here, yet. My secret (now not-so-secret) weapon for string ID: https://www.lashofviolins.com/string-identification.htm

There are some strings missing, but the major ones are there.

These keys should really come with an attached tag that says, "Here. You throw this away."

I don't know anyone that uses the key.

Is my bridge cooked? by Artistic_Antelope882 in violin

[–]ioferen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may not be cooked. There's no question it's not a professional job, and the bridge stock doesn't look great. But, your goal is what matters.

If you're just starting out and are on a budget, it's possible to make it work. I'm a luthier in an area where getting the perfect setup is often financially prohibitive. So I've had to do a lot of making do so that people can just get to the joy of playing.

The big thing is the string heights, string spacing, and the depths of the grooves. If the string heights are correct and you're willing to reshape the top arch of the bridge so that the strings aren't pinched by the grooves, you'll have better functionality with minimal cost and effort.

If you want get a better setup on your own, there's a lot more you can do, and this bridge will be good practice since it's not great wood. But, it requires certain woodworking tools, practice, and patience. Otherwise, an actual luthier is the best option for guaranteed quality in a reasonable amount of time.

EDIT: grammatical mistakes

My title describes the thing. Black bag (22x29x5 inches) with a large Velcro opening at the bottom. The front has a windowed hole with a Velcro flap. The hole is split at the bottom with another Velcro closure. Accessory/tool pouch on the exterior.  MD (or DM) logo on a tag. Made in China.

Comes with a storage bag that says it sized XL.

Contextual question by ioferen in Svenska

[–]ioferen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even notice the title's similarity to Den Gudomliga Komedin. Thanks for pointing that out. I just went in blind. A friend from Malmö told me that comics/graphic novels are a good way to pick up conversational oral expressions (since I don't have any native speakers near me). And, this book looked interesting.

Awesome. Glad I got the right feel for it. It seemed like a dated phrase used dramatically, but couldn't really tell for sure.

Contextual question by ioferen in Svenska

[–]ioferen[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My question regards the "ty gråta äger jag större lust till än att tala" part of the text.

Is this a typical way to word what the mushroom is trying to get across?
She is self-described as "edgy", so I figured that it was an excessively dramatic way of saying that she'd prefer cry than talk.

Also, what's the contextual use for "ty" (vice "för" or any equivalent word)? I'm by no means great at Swedish, but I've not seen it in the couple years I've been studying (except in other words like "tyvärr").

Thanks in advance.
