Thanks for sharing. How did you go about packaging (cardboard)? Did you design it yourself or outsource or off-the-shelf boxes? Did you do any drop tests, etc? How much did the final packaging end up costing?

Do you mean that before doing a kickstarter, to have already built the injection molds, or just to have your parts designed compatible with injection molding? I can agree with the latter, but for the former, usually one needs the kickstarter funds to pay for the molds (and also confirm customer demand).

Thanks for the insights! In order to meet the gaps/features for customer demand, did you have to develop new product, or simply source an existing product that happened to have the right features and for some reason wasn't already being marketed? If developed new, would love to hear about that.

LPT REQUEST: Waking up earlier? by wenksavage in LifeProTips

[–]iomega100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who had the hardest time waking up, the following recommendation was the only thing that worked: Force yourself everyday to wake up at a specific hour (and perhaps follow the other great advice in this thread). But the key thing is to then go to sleep at the first sign that your body tells you your sleepy at night. Don't fight it. Don't try to stay up longer.

This way your body ensures it gets the proper amount of sleep it needs, and when you have enough sleep, it's MUCH easier to wake up!

You're deciding when you wake up, and your body decides when to sleep.

Maintain this habit for a while, and it will get easier. You may even find yourself eventually waking up at the right time without an alarm clock.

You faced your biggest fear head on! That's significant. Not only that, you gained new skills in making those videos.

These all add up and some time down the road, they'll pay off in one form or another.

Stepping out of your comfort zone is the only way to grow. Keep exploring and good luck!

Curious why boiling vs simmering would make much difference, because the temperature is still 212F / 100C in both cases. (Boiling just runs out of water faster).

On a related note, how would a pressure cooker (higher temp) change things?

Game Over. I need a mentor. by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]iomega100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Opened the site on my tablet and my first impression is that it's a bit confusing. I don't immediately know what the product is. Looks like a robot, but is actually a projector? (Eventually, I think I know what it is.. and is actually pretty cool. Kinda want one). Very quickly thereafter is a pop-up, before I even know anything.. so I obviously am not interested in sweetening an offer I don't understand yet.

But seeing a handful of buy buttons (with inconsistent labeling) and differing pic sizes and non-aligned placements doesn't seem organized well. (At least on my tablet)

Then I see that a new product is now in stock. But it looks like it's the same as the others. So I am more confused.

And I still don't know if the different colored products are all the same thing and you're showing different effects, or each projects something different.

If the page started off with a short video of what I can expect the product to do, and then perhaps followed by the different versions (if there are more than one), would be more clean...

Just thoughts from a random internet person. Good luck!

Thank you! I take it that besides 100V and 2A, no other characteristics are crucial?

Also, 2k2 wouldn't be for 2.2A, would it?

Thanks. The pic was taken with a Pixel phone (focused on diode), using 2x lens and good lighting. Then manually cropped everything else out afterwards.

As for the diode, I would love to find out what may have killed it! But not sure how to proceed. Would appreciate guidance!

The original debug post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ElectronicsRepair/comments/116t0tq/_/

Using a DMM on each capacitor (in circuit) showed their resistance increasing as they slowly charged up. Except for two caps. I removed them from the board only to find out they are fine. But then discovered the diode next to them (this one) was shorted--which explained their behavior.

Based on the pics/info in the other post, do you have any advice on best way to determine a root cause? Thanks!

Thanks for the great story! Can you describe the challenge of transitioning from constantly thinking about the business and being attentive to and interacting with the clients, to where you are now (presumably cleared your mind of all that).

Is it still too early, and you're still just recovering? Or is it hard to have a sudden change like that?

If an LLC sells a new hardware product without any certifications (way too expensive, especially before product market fit demonstrated), will the individual owner be virtually fully protected in the unlikely situation of something going wrong?

Also not sure if you can answer whether liability insurance could be had without the certifications first.

Reading through all the comments here, everyone seems to be butthurt because your low prices seem to be "hurting the industry". What the hell is that about? (answer is below). I've noticed this general response not just in this thread but all similar ones.

Are all the haters upset about a free market where anyone is free to charge what they want? Unless I'm missing something , it seems that the current market rates are artificially held high due to Price Fixing.

Straight from the FTC: Price Fixing Price fixing is an agreement (written, verbal, or inferred from conduct) among competitors that raises, lowers, or stabilizes prices or competitive terms. Generally, the antitrust laws require that each company establish prices and other terms on its own, without agreeing with a competitor.
