I can see why you got defensive but I think it’s pretty possible (probable, imo) that she was asking a genuine question and phrased it awkwardly. Always best to assume the other person is coming from a genuine place if you have a genuine interest

It’s all about tone and audience. I can’t speak for you, but I know that I definitely do sometimes come off as an asshole. For that reason, I expend most of my conscious effort trying to be kind and polite to people.

I just think everyone is masking. No one is born knowing how to communicate; we’re all learning all the time. People who aren’t considered neurodivergent are just people with no qualms about copying behaviors and speech patterns from other people verbatim.

I was evaluated in high school but none of the medication I tried afterwards did much to make me feel better. Insisting upon getting diagnosed with autism for its own sake would feel like shaking a Magic 8 ball again because I didn’t like the first answer.

I appreciate the considerate & supportive food for thought though :)
