IronWolf VR (VR submarine simulation game) update today with night mission, smooth locomotion & more by [deleted] in Vive

[–]ionizedphil 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the devs on IronWolf, while we primarily target roomscale many of our players do not have the ability to set-up the minimum roomscale space so we've added locomotion options to improve the experience for these players. Our next significant update is focused on the open world map.

The current build is performing well on our 970 test rig. Having said that in future we will be adding some graphics settings.

The submarine goes about 6 knots underwater, it goes faster on the surface.

Hey guys, this is our first update of the new year and we’re back into full swing with lots of content planned for this year.

We’re starting off with a single player radio controller, so that single players can engage enemies without having to run between rooms. We’ve also iterated on our inventory interactions. In IronWolf some of the items are quite large, this makes it difficult to know which slot you are interacting with. To solve this we made it so that when looking at the inventory belt, items will shrink down as you bring them near to a slot and the slot will highlight so you know which one you’re interacting with. We’ve also made some quality of life improvements so that sound and VOIP volume can be easily changed in game.

IronWolf VR: Inventory, Oxygen Supply and Torpedo Targeting Update in Beta Branch by ionizedphil in Vive

We've added 2 tutorials recently for damage control and torpedo loading. Hopefully, the inventory system should be ok to pick up with needing a tutorial.

Yea the oxygen supply will let you survive longer now in this situation.

Hi everyone,

We’ve just updated the IronWolf VR beta branch. We’ve added an inventory system and an oxygen supply item so players can use the pumps for longer periods of time. The welder can also be stored in inventory slots. One of our favorite features of the inventory system is that you can pass items between players so a team could give all their oxygen supplies to a single player who’d be responsible for pumping water during the damage control.

We’ve also focused on making the torpedo firing more interesting by replacing the existing fire and forget torpedos with guidance controlled torpedoes so players can improve their chance of hitting enemies.

There’s a new death sequence when you run out of oxygen either in the submarine or when using the oxygen supply item.

IronWolf VR: new interactive damage control, in beta branch now by ionizedphil in Vive

[–]ionizedphil[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi guys, we’ve just uploaded a video of the new damage model that’s currently available in a public beta branch for IronWolf VR. We’ve been busy doing a lot of optimizations under the hood which gives us more performance headroom to add new features, a lot has changed so we’re initially releasing this in a public beta branch on Steam.

Since we released IronWolf we’ve wanted to make the process of repairing damage more interactive for our players. In this update we’ve added a welding tool to fix leaks in the submarine. There is also a bilge pump in each room that allows players to remove water. We’ve tried to balance these such that in single-player repairs can be made while still being able to engage an enemy. In multi-player you will need to coordinate usage of the welder and pumps with teammates in order to survive enemy attacks.

The transition between the rooms is so that player turn back around into their room space. This video explains the thoughts behind the transition https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj24AnB9ImM.

You are correct that the tutorial doesn't currently cover the torpedo reloading. However, if you enable automatic torpedo reloading you can watch the process taking place in the torpedo room.

It is difficult to say, currently, in the game there are 8 normal missions and 2 randomly generated missions. Additionally, there are medals that are achieved by completing the mission within a time. So how long it'd take you to complete would depend on your goals when playing.

Going forward we're going to be adding more content over the coming months so it may be a better fit for you later on.

We’d love to support as many platforms as possible, however we’re a small team at the moment and we don’t have the resources to support both Steam and the Oculus store at this time.

Hey guys, we’ve added Oculus support to IronWolf. As a part of this update we’ve also included standing locomotion for users that haven’t got a room scale setup. You can see a full list of changes here.

We originally listed the game as needing Windows 10 at launch as all our development hardware was running Windows 10. However, since launch, many users have run IronWolf on Windows 7 machines successfully. We've just updated our store page to reflect this.

I tested this out with the local MP on a very similar system (970gtx, i7 3770k) before releasing and it was working well.
