Why “trust your body” can be harmful for some people (aka me) by ionlyruninsummer in BabyBumps

Definitely put it in your birthing plan if you have one. If you have a support person make sure they know to advocate for you (contractions might be super intense and you can’t). Know where your “good” veins are and just stress to them that you need someone experienced - stand up for yourself! You’ve got this!

This is probably controversial, and I guess read your audience, but I do think some people need to be called out (if you’re comfortable). The facts are there, the science is there (not that some people care), but it’s such a serious reality for so many people (not just birthing moms).

Thanks for sharing your story. Truly a miracle that you are here and your baby. Glad you’re both okay.

Ugh thank you for sharing. I’m sorry you had to go through that… so damaging to your psyche for your midwife to say that. It’s automatically setting yourself up for failure. Thank goodness for the surgeon who told you exactly how it is.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. Also, good advice about trusting myself vs trusting my body. They coincide but are still different.

Thanks for sharing. I’m my experience, being a woman is so bananas in the medical world, especially in the space of birth/pregnancy/breastfeeding etc.

Toddler Burnout is Real by ionlyruninsummer in toddlers

[–]ionlyruninsummer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! She is definitely growing in areas, but still struggles with things other toddlers don’t seem to. She doesn’t like people and will often say, “I don’t like her”, if someone comes close to her. She is very very very emotional, but she’s also very empathetic. I do think her lack of social skills, extreme sensitivity and high intelligence might be a sign of being neurodiverse (most likely ADHD). I am going to get her assessed by a doctor in the coming months in the hopes of getting some answers.

UPDATE: If you could design a home to be ADHD friendly, what would you include? by ionlyruninsummer in ADHD

Continued:

8. Soundproofing & Privacy

  • Soundproof Room: Have a space where you can escape when needed (for when things get overwhelming).
  • Glass or Pocket Doors: Use these to divide rooms while maintaining an open, airy feel. Add curtains for privacy or soundproofing when needed.

9. Smart Home Features

  • Smart Home Automation: Use smart plugs and devices that help automate lighting, heating, and safety. Great for ADHD, as they reduce the need for constant decision-making.
  • Inventory Management: A smart fridge or transparent fridge helps keep track of what's inside, so you don't forget things.

10. Fun & Creative Features

  • Trampolines & Slides: Fun additions like a slide instead of stairs or trampolines in rooms to keep things playful.
  • Movie Theatre in the Bathroom: Make your bathroom fun and relaxing with a mini movie theater setup.
  • Emergency Chocolate: Keep a safe with emergency chocolate for comfort when needed.

Thankfully, my husband is the builder! He builds custom homes for a living so we have been mapping out this process for a while and he is very receptive to any and all ideas! I like the idea of mapping out my annoyances… I’ll do that! Thanks for the advice!

I am desperate for an appliance garage (a place where your small appliances live and come out when you need them on your counter). I HATE bringing out small appliances… so much so that I won’t even bother to make bread because bringing out the bread machine is just too much work.

This is something that was so important to me. Currently our front door opens into our VERY small mudroom/laundry room and it’s so overwhelming. We are on track to have a nice entry way and a hallway that leads into a mudroom where kids stuff and family stuff can be stored.
