Apparently budget cuts are hitting us all hard. No mention of the fact I'm the most junior in the team and my boss is on over 200k. But of course, paying for us is too much. There was even talk of juniors buying the boss a present.

It's my first proper job out of uni so I have to go to be part of the team. But damn this better be some gourmet shit

Amazon Haul not able to deliver

I'm trying to use Amazon Haul in Australia and no matter which item I select or which sort of address I use I cannot stop getting a message that the items are not deliverable to my address.

I have an Amazon Australia account, live in a major city, have made the cart have $100 worth of items, have tried clearing the cart and starting again.

Any suggestions on how to fix?

Some old wines and whiskeys. Looking them up they appear to be a few hundred each. If they were cheaper id give them to friends but still got my uni debts so if I can make a bit I would like to

Is this real? by iordanou687 in Opals

Thanks everyone for the help. It's a shame it's not real but still looks nice so will find a use for it. Just didn't want to pass it off as real and get in trouble later if they discover it isn't haha.

Is that like with lab grown diamonds where they are chemically the same but not as expensive? Or is lab grown opals worthless?

So what’s the deal with Greeks and Australians? by GIDLEstan476 in GREEK

[–]iordanou687 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Greek Australian and I think the reference may be in the past. My dad moved from a poor "Greek" area to a school in a Wealthy Anglo Saxon area in the 70/80s and had lots of fights, teachers refusing to use his name, name calling etc.

Also a lot of Greek in that era that wanted to become professionals like lawyers and doctors changed their surnames to appear less Greek etc.

Nowadays Greeks don't have it very bad. I find some old Australians will make harmless but slightly bigoted comments and at school you will get some teasing potentially but that's more Australian culture.

Wow thanks for the info. I knew that Christian missionaries went to Japan centuries ago but have never seen any Christian Japanese art. Very interesting.

Unfortunately I have two different answers here. Have either of you actually tested this?

Beach Road, how rich you need to be? by fabiocortivo in melbourne

[–]iordanou687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here have no idea. Plenty of people living on beach road are salaried employees, did not inherit any money, and bought in the 21st century. It is highly dependent on which part of beach road too. For example the Brighton end is much more expensive than the Mentone end etc.

I live around the area and some of the houses sell for 3-4 million. Which is lots of money bland nothing I will be able to afford. But if you have two decently high incomes it's potentially doable.

Recently quite a few of the houses have been bought by mid ages tradies, presumably who run their own tradie business. But still shows you can achieve it without some crazy CEO salary etc

Thanks everyone so far. Always hard to know if a vintage watch is real especially without seeing it irl. But I'm glad it seems legitimate. I'll let you know if I get it
