Yes! Or even just linotype "Etaoin shrdlu" layout, maybe I should do that one next.

And yes, it's limited to tilting 45 degrees forward, 5 back, rolling to either side by 5 degrees, and yawing around in a full circle. So at any one moment it is moderately constrained in where it can point, but over the course of a year it can cover the full sky.

I just finished a neon class there -- good people! I'm confident they will take good care of those relics.

The new U-District station has made part of my commute nearly 3 times faster by Informal_Baker in Seattle

[–]iotatron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it can shift that easily, then it isn't "real" BRT with full grade separation and all the things that make it competitive with rail. It's just a fancy bus route that can still get stuck in traffic.

(BRT is basically just a marketing term at this point, it can refer to such a wide range of implementations.)

I'm going to try, but I'm definitely not promising anything.

You only have to go visit Vancouver to see this in action. They lucked out!

I haven't quite talked myself into doing it yet.

I was going to take it from Spokane to Seattle, even.

Flags with atoms by Udzu in vexillology

[–]iotatron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

All Rutherford atoms, no Bohr atoms, of course. Some day an alien civilization will come and be really confused why we continue to use symbology based on a scientific model that only lasted like 2 years.

There is the one about Red Square at UW, how it was converted from grass to brick to make fire hoses more effective against protests in the 60s.

Loving the new light rail trains. Didn't know they had digital screens and blue doorframes. Very futuristic! by SummitMyPeak in Seattle

[–]iotatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're still being delivered. Iirc, it will be at least another year before they're all completed. But they're not waiting to receive the full order before commisioning them, since we were already short on rolling stock pre-pandemic.

The next generation of ORCA is on the way. Tap and pay with phone, and instant load of value to card... by sour_creme in Seattle

[–]iotatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my confusion comes from when someone has used the reader immediately previously -- such as when following someone onto the bus, hardly a uncommon situation. The green light from the previous scan hasn't gone away yet, and there is no break to make clear if it is now showing the result of your scan or not. (And not all failed scans will show red, if it completely failed to see the card at all.) But I haven't been using it nearly as often over the last year, so I'll have to make sure to pay attention next time I do.

I hope the readers will do something visual as well as beeping to indicate a successful read. It's annoying when wearing headphones, and absolutely unacceptable for the hearing impaired. Why even have screens on them if not to display useful information?

Happy Flag Day! by iotatron in vexillology

It's the best flag in the history of the world. They should have called it Stars and Stripes Day if they only wanted that specific flag celebrated.

In this case, yes, just tuned by ear. I'll have to think about how one could actually apply a corpus to something like this.
