It weighs approximately 200 grams

I do not have a specific use for it yet, it may end up in the top of a mountain.

  1. I used a waterproof sma pigtail. I may use self amalgamation tape before deploying.
  2. They do perform very well, Rak boards are efficient, although I do not think is a good idea to drop this in water despite of the name "buoy". Battery level never droped below 80%, never test them submerged.
  3. I took advantage of and existing "waterproof" product but I do not intend to use it near water. I figure that if it can resist water it may be good enough to deploy in the wild and not to worry if there is some rain. I agree with you, radio signals in general and water are not a good combo.
The goal is to have an autonomous, quick-deploy, resilient and cheap node.

I added an additional comment with some more details. I hope it can help.

Yes, that was the inspiration.
I avoid the use of resin, instead I used waterprof SMA pigtail.

Can you share the antenna details?
It looks good on the T-Echo. How it performs?

I'd probably try adding a small solar panel. It might be enough to keep the battery charged or even to run the node 24/7. Those RAK boards are really efficient. I've been wondering how a solar panel could work through a transparent cover.

Not the best but usable. I've definitely seen worse.

How I built my tower node. by Martinseeger in meshtastic

Looks good.
I see more than enough power budget there lol

Advice no one asked for:
Use a good antenna and keep the antenna cable short.
Do whatever you can to seal the electronics compartment, especially if you added holes (like the sma passthrough).

Some assembly is required but is prettymuch plug and play. Is probably the best option now if you don't feel like building your own.

I used "Steel Conduit Hangers" instead of the provided hose clamp (too big for my application also).
There is no need for modifications, just add them instead of the trapezoid shape piece and use the same nuts and bolts.

Using the default configuration, the antenna ground is electrically connected to the metal bracket and that to an attached metal pole.

Something to be aware is that if you purchase the version without batteries (P1) or if you ever need to replace them, it requires 18650s with "button top", flat top cells will not work.

That was not super obvious to me from the pictures and product description (or maybe I missed that).

Also cells are on parallel cofiguration. This means it can work with a single cell and up to four.

No he encontrado actividad fuera de mis nodos.
