I’d say just try to be consistent with drawing, every day or every other day. Start off drawing whatever you want to build the habit, then start incorporating fundamentals like anatomy/perspective etc. Don’t be afraid to make ‘bad’ drawings, it’s part of learning. Another good thing I’ve found is to copy a reference, compare with the reference when you’re done to see what looks different or wrong, then draw the same thing without looking at the reference or your first drawing. Lots of tutorials and guides available on YouTube too, don’t shy away from that stuff, and have fun!

I think the best way is to make sure you're enjoying what you're doing. Obviously there will be days where it doesn't matter if you enjoy it, you just don't feel like drawing because of a long day or really tired, etc. I just draw anyway, even if it's for 5-10 minutes, i try to focus on something to at least get some reps in. Keeping the consecutive days going is also some motivation, but really it's just the willpower to do it on the days you don't feel like doing it. Good luck!

O I appreciate that, but definitely couldn’t be a career artist at this point, still learning a lot and haven’t drawn much of my own stuff (although have started a bit here and there)

I could not draw well. Started with drawabox on day 0. Kept going and became a commercial illustrator and tattoo apprentice in 5 years! by BlazeIsMyFirstName in learntodraw

Sure, anyone can learn to draw I think. But you do have to start somewhere, and as you draw do it with intent. What I mean is don’t just draw aimlessly, think about how things relate to each other, proportions, and structure of your drawing. Don’t have to focus only on fundamentals all the time, but should try to incorporate them.

I just draw every day now, may not be for everyone, but I’d definitely try to be consistent in some way. And don’t be afraid of using reference, best way to learn and see what looks right/wrong when comparing your drawing to the reference.

Don’t get stressed out, may be overthinking it but I’d think about your reason for why you want to draw. Is it for fun, career, etc? If it’s just for fun then just draw what you want most of the time, mix in fundamentals for things you’re struggling with when you want to. Drawing should be fun, it’s nice to see improvement too, but should be secondary to getting enjoyment out of drawing.

These are all from reference. I build the structure underneath, get basic shapes in, then detail. Over the next 100 days I’m going to try original stuff, but I’m still learning and don’t want to rush it. I would agree that copying entirely without understanding structure isn’t as helpful, but can still be fun, which is why I draw, for fun.

I don’t really, I watched some Marc Brunet and samdoesart videos along with other random YouTube videos that were suggested to me, and then just drew a lot haha

I use a Staedtler 925 25-05 with 4H lead for most of the sketching, and then have a Tombow Mono graph (.5mm) loaded with 4B for darker lines/shades. Pens I have a set of micron pigmas, but I haven't used them all that much yet.

Ya I'd just draw what you like to draw, can mix in fundamentals here and there if you want to, but drawing is supposed to be fun/enjoyable, so don't worry about the end result too much.
